Need help with my Orange SPV M3100 PDA.

I have been given the above device (very generous mummy).

I believe I have unlocked it using a decent bit of software. I have an O2 contract and an Orange PAYG sim card but I can't get either to recognise in the PDA.

The PIN that I know is correct for my O2 says that it is incorrect in the PDA and has now locked the phone function - I can syncronise everything stil, etc. Now I have to get a PUK code to enter but when I get it will I still get this trouble? Why won't my O2 Sim work in this unit?

Is my handset really unlocked? How do I know for sure?

Any help please - Seems a big shame that I can only use this as an MP3 player or a calendar.

Many thanks.

S.

P.S. If you have any other questions to help me resolve this just ask. Ta.

If you cant get either the O2 or the Orange Sim cards to be recognised you must have done something sinister to the phone.

It is Orange by default, for it not to see the Orange Sim, the first thing I would do is a Hard Reset of the phone.
This will take it back to manufacturers default settings (basically a reformat and reinstall of WM5)

Remove the SD Card if it is fitted.

Make sure the battery is FULLY CHARGED

Ensure the charger cable is plugged in.

    With the Phone off....

Hold in the RESET button with the Stylus (little hole at the bottom) and press the Power button to switch it on.

You will get a few options about restoring.

Once done, it should work with the Orange Sim card.

Then go back to your Unlocking method and make sure it is the right one for the phone and you followed the procedure correctly.
  • Thanks for your reply.

I have just tried the reset.

I put my o2 sim in the card holder entered the sim pin and it said incorrect pin entered and "You have tried 4 times, please wait until timeout". I then put the sim straight in to my other mobile where the pin works correctly.

Is the PIN I am entering the right PIN.

    AHHHHHH!

Forgot to say - When I put the Orange sim in my other mobile it say "SIM blocked".

Just out of interest, how did you unlock it? I have a M3100 on Orange and will probably move to another network when the contract runs out. It is a great phone and I would like to be able to use it when I leave Orange.
  • Try this - It worked for me. It is completely free. Which reminds me - they do ask for donations if you can get your device unlocked using their software. I haven't donated yet.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your comments about the card - Where did you get yours from?

Thanks for the unlocking link. The question is, am I brave enough to try and use it? I really don't want to fry my phone.

I don't think that there is any real chance that you will. They do have all the usual disclaimers but it went really smooth.

The only thing to make sure all goes well is shut off all your application that might open while you're doing it. I shut down Messenger and Skype (etc, etc) - you never know may call. I also turned off screensaver and powersaver mode.

I selected Sim-unlock but didn't select Super-CID. I have no idea what Super CID is or does.

You'll also need AutoSync - If you haven't got it you can download it free from MS (I think!) - I didn't have it.

    Hope this helps.

if i don't remember wrongly, Super-CID allows you to flash firmware onto your phone regardless of the provider, ie. flashing T-Mobile firmware or HTC TyTN firmware onto an Orange M3100 handset...

that pof dude who came up with the unlock solution is a real genius...you might wanna visit the XDA developers forum page, he can be found there along with many other smartphone pros. the forums are filled with lotsa updates and tweaks you can perform on your phone...including Windows Mobile 6.0 upgrade ROMs!

sorry...but in case anyone thinks i'm affiliated to these guys, i'm not but i just think it's an excellent resource for PDA-phone owners like myself!
