If an operating system fails on a hard disk the data can still be read by another operating sytem on another hard disk. Disk partitioning can enable multiple operating systems on a single hard disk.

  • I find that my machine takes twice as long to load personal settings now that I have SP2 - other than that it seems fine.

I loaded SP2 on XP from the MS disc, it ran for 10 minutes then the pc restarted with error mesages. Its a HP pavilion. I tried to restore back to a point before but that failed and so did recovery from the partition and reformatting from there. HP said I needed to buy the recovery CDs which I did but the pc still wont run (config error) so now I am waiting for HP's courier to collect it for repair - thankfully still under warranty.

I downloaded SP2 and it completely trashed my pc >:(

Have had to re-install xp and everything else that was on my pc. have downloaded all the updates except SP2 from microsoft and pc is running fine.

I had a look at the microsoft official forum and a lot of techie people on their are slating it. And most of them have said if you have AV and firewall dont bother with the update.

It crashed both my machines and another I look after,

My other 5 machines I service I will now not put SP2 on not until Microsoft sorts this out .

It is disgracefull how they can release a major update which is infact almost an operation system in its own right and not get it right !

So guess it pays to wait a few more months till they sort out all the !!!!!! ups

Be warned (if you haven't already had enough warnings already) that if you ever use P2P programs you might be interested in this article before installing Windows XP SP2.

    To quote:
... the devs seem to have limited the number of possible TCP connection attempts per second to 10 (from unlimited in SP1). This argumentative feature can possibly affect server and P2P programs that need to open many outbound connections at the same time.

I installed SP2 and have no noticable side affects at all. What is the difference between my settings and others who have the huge problems?
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
