I'm want to get a new PAYG mob as well.

I've been thinking about going on FRESH as they hav a special that lasts for 3 months from purchase that gives you:

calls for 5p to any phone - mob or land (15p after 3 months)
    texts 1.7p (5p after 3 months)

and if you only want a basic phone they hav the Nokia 1100 for £30 if you buy £20 of airtime. The selection of cheap phones is limited and maybe a little expensive.

The rates on EasyMobile & FRESH after 3 months still seem a lot cheaper on PAYG compared to other networks.

EasyMobile & FRESH have kicked off this price war that T-Mobile are rumoured to enter soon so prices generally should drop.

i know it is possible to get deals nearly as cheap as PAYG on contract if you are clever with all the cashback and stuff, but i cant really be bothered and hav heard that claiming money back from some coompanies is difficult.

So if anyone has got any thoughts.

    @ Ria

If you check out the virgin mobile website at:

    http://www.virginmobile.com/mobile/

you can pick up handsets with considerable free call credit loaded onto them (like £15 quid odd)... best of all, you can text each other for 3p each (calls aren't that much either) so if you guys only use it for emergencies then it'll last both of you a good few months as well!

@steve, will look into things for you on my side... will reply to this thread when i get back in from work!!

    HTH.

  • I recently got a Fresh SIM from Carphonewarehouse which is free when you buy £10 airtime. Their rates are really good - one rate of 15p per minute cross network and landlines. Yesterday I went into Carphonewarehouse to top up was really surprised to find they've got a deal on till June 11th where any top-up over £10 is tripled! Here's the link

Orange are currently doing £20 off Nokia handsets on their PAYG.

For example, the Nokia 3220 is only £49.99 on Orange's website (£100 on o2, £119 on Voda).

The above price may only be applicable if ordering of their website so you may get charged more from their shop. If you can't order online then goto the The Link (even maybe CarphoneWarehouse) as they may "price match".

Although it is on orange, Nokia phones are relatively easy to unlock (so it can be used on all networks). Your corner phone dealer will probably unlock it for £5 (ours does) but you could expect to pay a little more - may upto £10.

See Orange's PAYG phones website, http://shop.orange.co.uk/shop/show/handsets/pay_as_you_go/nokia/all

For more info on unlocking visit http://www.unlockme.co.uk but be aware you only get upto 5 tries of entering the correct code to unlock Nokia phones after that you can only unlock it via a cable and appropriate software. Though your corner little phone dealer will most likely do it via a cable and software.

I would go with Virgin and look at their reconditioned phones. These are unwanted returns due to their 28 day return policy and really are "new".

Virgin customer service is excellent and if you applied for the free simcards and/or don't require a simcard included the prices are £10 less as shown on the website if you register your sim with Virgin.

I have been looking for a Motorola V200 for my son for his birthday. Found the best price to be refurbs for Virgin on the https://www.mobileshop.co.uk site priced at £44.99 with £5 credit. Are these phones in good enough condition to give as a present or will they be scratched etc?

    Has anyone purchased this before?
