  • I've got them coming out next week. BG have quoted us £4300 for a new boiler, which seems a lot. Add into that the annual service per year and insurance this company seem affordable. Plus we've a 5 year old boiler that cost £3000 to fit and has since cost us another £1000 + in repairs and £500+ in servicing, and needs replaying already.
I would rather have the £4300 we have to pay for the new boiler in my bank account too.
The only thing that concerns me is what happens if we move?
  • I too have signed up with this company for two excellent reasons. First its a grade A boiler which should save me over £300 per year and second after year nine you get a replacement boiler. Boilers are capital outlays and schemes like these are very welcome.

NOTE : the mods / team pulled an entire thread of [tallguy] this spammers posts late yesterday, he immediately came back in as a new poster by changing the '0550' of his nym. For myself anyone reading this thread should be wary, very wary, he hasn't posted since but he did log in Today 9:37 AM for look at this new~nym - new~thread.

Just a heads up, your money, believe who you choose to.

It amazes me that the moderators of this forum, without any checking, considered me a spammer and pulled a legitimate post from a mere mortal trying to tell people about a new offer. So much crap was posted but I am still here and next Thursday my new A grade boiler is being fitted. The company, which I will not name, has confirmed that the first 12 weeks are free followed by 12 weeks at the lower sum before paying the full weekly charge.

    - in this particular case you are not spamming .. .. yet .. .. waits !
    - in yesterdays case your were overtly spamming
[evidence in the Goggle Cache Pages]
    - your company has 'previous' on MSE for spamming

I believe you are a spammer, using MSE pages to [ ""a mere mortal trying to tell people about a new offer ""] deliver sales patter to members here in the usual way hoping to generate business, other people can decide what to believe, I'm merely bringing to their attention the fact's of last evening.

    A couple of points.

Firstly the installation is for a combi boiler only.

Secondly the service and maintenance is only for the Boiler - not the rest of the CH system.

The saving 'of over £300' is just a hope! I am aware that ASG's advert quotes the Energy Saving Trust who state that savings could be up to £300. The Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors gave the average saving as £95pa.

The average gas bill for 16,500kWh pa is around £700 taking into account approx £100 is for daily standing charge(DSC) or the differential between Tier1 and tier 2 prices.

Whilst ASG's boiler is A rated(efficiency of 90%+) it is well known that figure is under laboratory conditions and will rarely be achieved in practice. Indeed SEDBUK who are the authority and list the various boiler efficiencies state:
Although this provides valuable data to allow other efficiencies to be calculated, the results are not themselves a satisfactory guide to efficiency achieved under installed conditions. Neither can the results be used to compare
    one boiler with another

So I suggest a saving of over £300 pa is just a pipedream for most people.
  • & you get a crap boiler as well, ravenheat are advertising atm in the trade press & their boilers are less than £500, i wonder how many on this forum would be shouting from the roof tops if their installer tried to charge them £3500 for an install
I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

  • As the title suggests, I am still waiting for all the knockers on this forum to come up with the name of another company that is offering an A class boiler including servicing at this low weekly price. BG can't do it and Helplink want a £500 deposit.

It is so easy to come up with loads of negative points and accuse people of spamming but when it comes down to it, no other company name is forthcoming.

The Warmfront scheme is finished and the new strategy for 2013, has not started yet.

DUP, no one else on this thread is promoting any specific product other than you, and you clearly are selling the product without the agreement of the MSE team. Sadly when you've finished and had this whole thread deleted all the honest posters will lose their input and questions.

  • Although you are signing a 14yr contract with ASG, you can buy out of it if you move. Up to five years, its around £2000 but it drops to only about £800 after year seven. Its all laid out in their contract and you have the right to cancel before they install the boiler.

My original boiler that is being replaced was installed in 1994. It is a G rated Worcester 240. Are you saying that an A rated boiler will be no more efficient? I don't get your point about the radiators. In 18yrs, I have never needed a radiator serviced, so would not pay BG for something I don't need. The un-named company will, though, flush the system, for free, before connecting the new boiler to the radiators.

The main reason I am going for a new boiler is the fact that though the heating works fine, there is no hot water coming out the taps. BG came last year and fixed this under their one off boiler repair and returned under their guarantee, twice more, before telling me that I needed a new boiler.

Firstly the discussion on this forum is about the ASG scheme(the firm have been named several times in this thread) in general and NOT your specific circumstances and reasons for taking up the offer!

How on earth did you think I was suggesting/implying that an 'A' rated boiler was no more efficient than your 'G' rated boiler?
If I was quoting from the SEDBUK website is it not reasonable to assume I have some knowledge of boiler efficiency ratings.

If you care to re-read my post I was stating(with a quote from SEDBUK) that the 90% efficiency of an A rated boiler is rarely achieved when installed, as it needs to be in condensing mode all the time to achieve that performance.

There are a number of gas safe fitters who contribute to MSE and for several years some have been scathing about the boiler manufacturer -see post above. Not that it will affect you from a repair pov, but it raises a question about performance??

What I am saying is your statement that you should save over £300 pa is just a hope, and the majority will not achieve such a saving.

Turning to a CH system, as you have never needed to 'service' a radiator it appears that you think that a CH system consists of just a boiler and radiators. What about TRVs, thermostats, programmers, gas pipes, as well as plumbing throughout the house?

I note they promise same/next day repair if boiler breaks down. Presumably they will employ local RGIs and no doubt strike a hard bargain about charges; so I wonder how this will pan out.

Despite the above comments I think that the scheme has some merit. ASG have apparently been excellent with their 'Rent a Roof' solar panel scheme(albeit how such a scheme was sanctioned by the Government is inexplicable)

For someone without funds, a boiler on its last legs, and can cope with having a combi, it is worth considering. However it is a 14 year committment.
