The price sounds very OK-does that include a powerflush and VAT though?
But why do you want an Ideal? No free lunch, and no free laptop

I paid £1650 and got a 5yr guarantee on a Ariston.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
What it may grow to in time, I know not what.

nope not OK.
boiler swap-out equation FOR most boiler engineers
(boiler price) x 2 = X and (add a bit on)
There are many engineers only doing swapouts....Why cause they are lazy and its high profit.
i would be looking to get that down round about/or as near as possible to £1200...especially if straight swap
The cost of boiler is 676 inc vat. if your man is power flushing it then he will have cost of chemicals. If he is putting a magnaclean on there will also be that cost.
BTW you do realize many people in the building trade toddle of too merchants pay 676 for boiler then charge you 676 +vat+(plus sometime a few quid more). When more often than not you can get it direct form merchant or cheaper else were.
Get more quotes, a good plumber will give an AVERAGE price on the phone for a boiler swap out. Some will not do it over phone either because they are greedy or because many think customer does not know what AVERAGE means.
Some guys do not have the powerflush kit, if they do not then thats extra cost for them to hire.
I have actually just called my heating engineer , as i now need boiler in asap. He has informed me its aprox 1 weeks work.0 -

i am about to get a coal fire central heating replaced by oil.
OIL Tank will need installed, powerflush, tail ends for new rad in attic bedrooms. HW in 2 new bathrooms. One new rad in living room. Boiler fitted and magnaclean fitted. Thats not a swap-out and its not gas. but its allot more work(principle is the same. £1100 labor. Oh and the header tank/HW tank will need disconnected
And the guy is oftec and gas approved (before someone strats on that lol )
Ill be buying direct from merchant the parts and i get too keep the scrap copper cause am tight and i may as well use it for beer money rather than the engineer.

The quote sounds ok to me. Have you considered retaining your hot water cylinder and just getting a high efficiency conventional boiler rather than a combi?Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0

The usual question; is the property and water/gas supply even suitable for a combi, and do you specifically want to switch to one?No free lunch, and no free laptop

yet another trade bashing post from you, most RGI's won't give a price over the phone not because they are greedy at all it's because they need to see the job & find out what work needs to be done, there is no such thing as an average price every job is different, being self employed is totally different to paye if you go to work & sit there & do nothing you may get moaned at by your boss but you still get paid, if you do an estimate or a quote you may get 50% of them turn into a job, so who pays for the 50% wasted time visiting the job & working out the costs, we have to pay all the overheads, tax etc etc yes we make a profit on materials everyone does, you have just bought all your own materials & whoever you bought them from has sold them to you for more money than they paid but you didn't say they only cost you £500 so i want them for that cause they would have told you to go away, most trades i know work on a profit of 20% so hardly the lets double the boiler price that you are going on about, so when the stuff you have bought goes wrong who are going to moan too or phone ? your installer & i hope he turns around & says not my problem because you supplied all the stuff so you sort it, oh & btw how many hrs has he spent working out & telling you what stuff to buy ? who pays for all those hrs of time & knowledge because if you were my customer & i knew you were going to buy all your own stuff just to save a few quid then i would have either charged you for my time or just let you work it all out yourself.
OP it's not a bad price but i wouldn't be going for anything less than a 28kw or a Ideal boiler they are def at the budget end of the market 7 yr warrentee or not.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0
