Need some advice regarding ESA claim

I would be making a new (first time claim).
Ive read you can request to backdate payment for up to 3 months & It also states that no reason is needed for this. But, there's always a catch with those B*stards.
Ideally, I would like to claim from the end of August when I signed off JSA. I've had zero income since then & my debts are mounting. I do have valid reasons for not making a claim sooner.
If anyone could offer some help with this, it would be greatly appreciated.
You can mail me on here, or preferably a phone call if you send me a private message.
Cheers

not sure about backdating,i am positive however that you should NOT give your phone number out
you will get an answer to your question soon0 -
Not sure... but in the interim be aware sicknotes are required to qualify for ESA so I wonder if this (backdated sicknotes) ultimately will determine if you get backdated payments. I certainly wouldn't mess about in applying... might be worth doing over phone if you want to discuss backdating."Do not attribute to conspiracy what can adequately be explained by incompetence" - rogerblack0

I applied for backdating, which was granted without problems.
You do need a backdated medical note, as I understand it.0 -
Yep, that's what I think will be required. A Backdated note.
I still haven't seen the Dr. for a current sick note to be able to begin the claim, but I'm certain, in my situation that won't be a problem.
It was mainly the backdating issue I wanted information about. &, if my Dr would be allowed to do this without having seen me during that time.0 -

GPs' guidelines only allow them to issue you a backdated sicknote if you had sought medical attention for the illness claimed at that time.0 -
Ok, thanks for the replies so far.
What about that Ive felt too ill & havent stepped foot outside, nor spoken to anyone in 6 weeks.
Would this be reason enough to get a claim backdated to when I signed off JSA?0 -

I would doubt it as how does the GP verify this. Didn't you have contact with anyone during this time?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.
I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

I know what youre saying, how can the Dr. confirm I was ill when he hasnt seen me. But, if I was to go tomorrow, its pretty obvious that its not a sudden illness & didnt come along like catching a cold for example.
I live with my parents. We don't speak, although theyre aware of my situation.0 -

Without knowing what's wrong (and I'm not asking you to tell me), its impossible to know if it will be clear that you must have had this condition for some time.
The GP may also wonder why if you live with someone that they din't contact the surgery to get a home visit if you were unable to get out or contact the surgery yourself. I know you said you don't talk but you must have some interaction or how would they know you've been ill?Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

Im afraid it wont be obvious to your gp how long you have had your illness if they havent' seen you at all in this period.
They can only give you a sicknote from the time they have seen you, its a legal document and all GPs' have guidelines they have to follow.0
