I've just been paid for my first 3 Mystery Shops, which was a really nice surprise when the money landed in my bank account. I've done 6 altogether so far, with 5 for GRG, which I have preferred to the Retail Eyes one, but they all earn money, which is very important at the moment. Just got to keep going, and I'll have my debts and mortgage gone soon! ;)

I'm about ready to input my earnings for the inland revenue too, but my earnings are £321 but petrol at 40p per mile/paper copies at £0.06p each comes to £431, showing a loss of £139.

Everything is legitimate and I've kept details of the job, mileage, copies of paper but now I'm worried that they'll think I'm fiddling, but I'm not.

I see some of you have altered your figures, not sure what to do. Wonder if it's worthwhile if I might be investigated over something I've not done!!

What do you think please, anyone else been in this situation? Thanks for any advice in advance.

I made a small loss in my first year, but the IR were fine about it and it wasn't queried.

You can carry your loss over to next year to reduce your profits too.
Here I go again on my own....

You need to look at why you've lost money and learn from it. What's the point if you are losing money? (Which is what the IR will ask if this happens each time). Common places for people to lose money are, for example, driving more than 4 miles for your average Gap job, or no fee jobs when you weren't visiting the outlet anyway.

Had another trawl through Gap and note that there are two jobs in the same "shop" in the same town near-ish to me. One relates to "travel" and one to "home phone".
Do you think I could do the two in the same visit, or would this be a strictly one job per visit scenario?
Also, what on earth can you buy for £5 (I note that they point out they really do mean £5 and not £4.98!) in such a "shop"?

    1) Gap will not allow 2 jobs at one site on the same month let alone day.
    2) £5 Top Up's normally the best, but you can get £5 worth of €'s and save them up and change em back or use them on holiday
    3) The name for the "Shop" is ok to be called a "Stamp Shop" as it does not disclose the name of the client. (Makes it a bit easier)
