By the way you need to sort out your own tax, as far as I know TNS and Optimum Contact send you a PAYE form but everyone else its up to you.
Good luck with the shopping :rotfl:
if the company that i'm working for uses the paye system, must I do anything with the Inland revenue? Or does the company do everything? i don't like paperwork, it frightens me.0 -

I think you just have to declare whether it is your first (only) or second job and then the company does the rest for you. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -

If it's PAYE then they'll sort out the tax for you and you don't need to go self employed - but double check that they are PAYE as I've seen companies labelled as such on other forums when they're not.
Even if they are PAYE, you may be able to claim some of the tax back if the mileage allowance doesn't cover your costs - but you'd then need to register as self employed.0 -
Okay, thanks for all your help! I'm guessing that I won't have to do the self-assessment stuff or anything? I mean, I very much doubt I'll have to pay tax anyway as I'm currently in full-time education & don't work.
Oh, and I emailed them to ensure that they definitely deal with all the tax and NI contributions, and they confirmed they do. I'm sending off the p46 tomorrow, I can't wait for my first assignment0 -
apoorstudent wrote:Oh dear, I feel like I'm going round and round in circles in my head... I still do the self assessment despite the company using paye? Or if work non-paye companies?
Have PM'd you - but basically if you work PAYE companies, you don't need to worry about it!:o0 -
yes scary at first..but it does get better..you sometimes have to stop your self and say.."no they dont know im a MS!"..i thought it was written across my forehead at first!
You just register with them and they send any work within a certain distance of your postcode..but you do have to be quick!TO FINISH LAST, FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH....0 -
does anyone know when we should be submitting tax information to the IR? I'm just seeking the information out on their website but if anyone has it to hand, that would be great!
