Depends on who you work for. Some companies are PAYE and will deduct the tax and NI for you.

Many companies consider you as self-employed contractors. You will need to register with the Inland Revenue as self-employed (regardless of how few jobs you may do). Fail to do this and they will fine you. Then, each April they will send you a Self Assessment Tax Return which you will need to fill in to calculate any tax you owe. When you register as self-employed, ask about NI contributions. They will tell you whether or not you need to pay anything extra, make voluntary contributions to protect any future benefits, or apply for a small earnings exemption.

Thanks for this Genie75. It has been on my mind for a little while that I need to declare my earnings from mystery shopping and your post was the prompt I needed.

I contacted Inland Revenue and they are sending me the self emplyed registration form to fill in as well as the small earning excemption form as I don't earn enough to pay national insurance (as self employed).

I wonder if ebay/amazon earnings ought to be declared. Would you/anyone know please?

Hiya Dormouse I was referring to *************** I had some where I had to enter the receipt for them.
 Of course - I wasn't thinking! (Am blaming it on the pizza outlet training manuals! :rotfl: )

My receipt submission last night was a bit of a trial and error, LOL! It seemed to go through ok in the end, after my struggles with the scanner :rotfl:

I also accepted a mobile phone thingie as well (was so excited) but now am having second thoughts - as you said, it does seem like a lot of work

Oh yes, and I was having problems with the training thingies now too, benbenandme, just like you described - couldn't access the test for ages, it was just black! Got there in the end though :o

Is it okay to vaguely refer to the client if we're not naming the MS company in the same post though?

If the chain can be identified - then no. If you just say 'clothes shop' or fast food outlet' then you may be OK - but don't hold me to that!! ;) As MyUserNamesTaken said, people have been removed for much lesser offences!!!
