PONDSAVER wrote:So the tax bit I am trying to get my head around - if i start a spreadsheet with job pay - minus expenses such as mileage parking etc giving me a true job profit then I total this up and save approx 22% plus a little extra for NI.
Am I right.
Also do I have to pay more NI as I am currently pauing NI throughmy current employer.
You DO NOT have to pay NI if you are going to earn less then £4k (ish) from self-employment. Ring the people who you registered with for self-employment and ask to apply for a exemption certificate."Debt makes plans for you" - A quote from my friend Catherine. How true!0 -
I've just done my 2nd MS for Gap and just submitted my results and got the following email....
"However, the results have been sent to a pending database. An operator may be in contact soon to confirm, clarify, or obtain additional information. Please have the results readily available and don't forget to submit your receipt if one is required for your assignment. Failing to provide a receipt when required will result in you not be paid for that assignment and being blocked from completing additional assignments for us. "
has anyone ever had this before? I'm think I've got it because it was a 3 part assignment i.e. had to book an appointment, sit through the appointment and then have a follow up call. Anyone else had anything like this? It was a no spend assignment.

I did not have to send off my receipt for a recent job with Grass Roots., I just found what looked like a receipt number on it and entered that.
I did get an email to confirm how much i had spent.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -

I think this is fairly standard - I've certainly seen it before. I've had a few follow up calls, as well, but they don't seem to correlate with the times I've been warned I might be called
One of the other companies I work for specifically say that you might be asked questions (I think online) for the 48 hours after you submit to them, but I haven't had a follow up yet!Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).0 -

I've had that before - usually if there was something negative about the job and they just ring to clarify the negatives are correct.
Sometimes it happens on good jobs though and sometimes they never ring at all! Here I go again on my own....0 -

I had the same email too, but haven't heard anything for over ten days so am hoping the results were okay and don't need to be checked!0 -

Your personal tax allowance is about £4600 (can't remember exact figure!). If you won't earn above that from the total of all jobs, you'll not have to pay any tax.
Yes you can be employed by PAYE employers and self employed. My income comes from a mixture of both.
Do register within 3 months, as I have read people on here have been fined for not doing so
Then just keep basic accounts for your self employed work showing money coming in (wages, reimbursements) and money going out (shop spends, parking). If you run your accounts to finish at the end of the tax year it makes things easier. The final balance will be your taxable income, which you'll have to declare on your tax return.
You'll also have to fill in a page for each PAYE company, but you can just copy the figures off either your final payslip of the tax year, or from your P60.
It sounds complicated, but it's not really. The online tax return makes it easier, as it shows you any mistakes, and does all the calculations for you. You just get a final screen showing what you owe them or if you're lucky, what they owe you!
Hope this helps.
I'm not actually working at the moment, although, I'm starting working in 3 weeks, for the Christmas period.
Yes, it does sound complicated. These sort of things go right over my head. I've had a chat to my partner about it and she's a bit more clued up on it than I am. I'm going to register as SE today.
Thanks for you help!
