Takes a while, usually depends on which company you signed up for.0

Mule wrote:Hi everyone
I have already asked this question earlier in the week but had no replies so I'll try on this thread instead ........ I remember reading on MSE that there is a mystery shopping company who sorts out tax etc for you which I would prefer rather than sorting it myself. Can anybody help me on this one please?
Hi Mule
There are loads of mystery shopping companies out there & some are PAYE (they deduct tax at basic rate unless you use all or part of your tax allowance through their payroll) whilst some work on self employed basis (no tax is deducted & you need to register as self employed with the Inland Revenue & complete a tax return each year).
As mentioned above GFK/NOP (Cybershop) do operate on a PAYE basis. One of the biggest m/s companies, Gapbusters, operate on a self employed basis.
If you restrict your mystery shopping to PAYE companies only you will reduce the amount of work available to you.
Hope this helps

can't believe this thread is still going! I don't do my Mystery Shopping until next week, I turned down 3 up to now because I think using a bank account 4 times in one week, that I haven't used in 2 years is abit of a give away lol!
I also missed out on one and it was a really good one too!

HAve started doing some Mystery Shopping with grass roots - did the first one last week, and have 4 more booked for next week. I note that someone on here said that they pay speedily. What do you mean by speedily - how soon after completion do you get paid? Cheers
I haven't worked for Grass Roots since last year but they used to pay twice a month, on about 1st & 15th each month.
If you did the jobs last week you might get paid on about 1st August but it depends what the cut off date is for their payroll. If you missed it, then it will be on about 15th August, but you do need to allow 3 or 4 days for the payment to show in your bank a/c.
Grass Roots do not deduct tax so you need to register as self employed.0 -

I really wouldn't bother with mystery shopping. I did it for a while and, for the effort, it's a complete waste of time.Only when the last tree has died
and the last river has been poisoned
and the last fish has been caught
will we realise we cannot eat money0 -

If you do it online it's quicker! It depends on your circumstances as to how long it takes to fill in.
Everyone has to fill in a basic personal details section.
Then it's 1 section for each PAYG employer.
A section covering your self employment income.
Then other sections if you have any other income - Pensions, Captial Gains, Rented Property etc.
If you have all your paperwork sorted, such as P60's and the final accounts from your self employement, it doesn't take that long. I think it took me an hour or so.Here I go again on my own....0 -
