Happy New Year, moneywaster! May 2013 be the year you clear all your debts :)

  • Well the car has gone, exhaust went and as it was going at the end of the month, we were not prepared to repair it. It had other various bits wrong with it too.

We have decided to hold off getting another car for at least over the winter. We live only one bus ride, in 4 directions from 5 different towns/villages. I am within walking distance of work and DH has is free bus pass. So we are going to be a no car family till at least April and we will reassess then. I must admit the pressure of having no car to keep on the road is quite uplifting and of course there is the money saving part of it too :j.

I continue to save where I can and getting the hang of meal planning and running meal ingredients and leftovers into other meals. Making do and mend and to be honest cant say I have done without anything or missed anything.

First repayment to bank of Bro, put away in a separate account.

Thank You all for you continued support. Do any of yous have diaries or threads you post in. I would like to return the support I receive

Not having a car to worry about will relieve some pressure :) I have a diary on the MFW board, if you ever fancy a browse!

What an inspiring thread. I was a big overspender too, before the LBM struck. I've often said before that there's just no bag of tat I could come home with now that would make me feel as good as being in control of my money feels. A huge well done for sorting your loans/budget out. We no longer have any debts (only the mortgage) but I still find this forum really helpful in concentrating my mind so I don't slip back to my old ways & now that I'm concentrating on building up a decent emergency fund (with the economic situation being so bad), I still find there's lots of good ideas to learn from people on here. When I think back to the decades I spent frittering money away, I feel I was so stupid & wasteful, but at least we're proof that change is possible for everyone, regardless of age or length of overspending habit x

  • Have read your thread and have to say, you have done very well. Leaving a car purchase till the spring, will hopefully mean you have a lot more savings to open up your choice of car. Good Luck in 2013 with your savings.:)

  • Its been a while since I have updated. Nothing new to add.

Still no paydayloans, they in the past
No car purchase yet and have £1150 saved for another one, if we decide to get one.
Paid brother back £300 to date.

Having no car has not been a huge inconveniece and the savings have been brilliant. although I have been putting it into car fund.

    Otherwise all busness as usual.

Thank you Foxgloves and Exarmydreamer for reading and posting.

  • Back to my diary, slipped a little bit on the watching my cash. This happens every time I think, Ive got some extra cash. No great harm done. So back to logging in as often as possible.

Only money I intend spending today is £2 on some meat for dinner tonight.

I am walking into town and back a saving of £2.80 bus fare its a minute walk each way. As I am overweight, this will be a bonus.

I planning on losing lbs and saving £s

  • No money spent today and a NS for tomorrow too. Tonight I am going to sit and do menus for Mon, Tue, Wed and Thurs, we are not big eaters, so only planning main meals, we just have a sandwich for dinner. Budget for food for 4 day £20.

Moneywaster55 - I am just coming out of a period of extremely tight finances so know how it feels!

I made close to £150 on Ebay selling xbox/PC games, dvds and books. The games in particular did well, making close to a tenner each, which is more than you'd get from the likes of HMV/CEX/Game as a trade-in.
DVD box sets also did reasonably well, even quite old ones. I sold my entire 'Prison Break' DVD collection for about £8 a season. Not bad for a series that is getting on in years now.
Because it's fun to have money!
