make your mind up :rotfl: you say setup a call and collect or a keepsafe until the redirection starts, now you say the redirection takes no time at all to set up!

The point I was making was, as far as I know, a call and collect involves having a test letter sent to the property to bring in as proof the person has access to the property, that takes time, hence why I suggested contracting customer services to put a hold on the mail.

    nope,unless its a new protocol

I don't mind paying for the redirect service. I don't mind and even expect some security when it is done. What I do object to is RM's failure to make the online service work and its failure to get up to date with requirements. Lots of people, for example, no longer have printed copies of bills. I suppose we should be grateful they don't ask for ration cards.

just a few weeks ago, there was a thread on here moaning its was too easy to set up redirections!

Yes and it got rejected. For what reason I know not(some of your details could not be verified) although no-one else seems to have a problem.

Yes, got one of those but, of course, more than 3 months old.

May have to resort to this but they sure don't make it easy and there are 1001 other things to do.

I just had to get some bank statements for DWP - Santander printed them out on headed paper immediately in branch, Cooperative I just ordered them at the counter tho I am sure you could do it with telephone banking. I can't tell you that every bank is so easy, but if not it might be worth switching to paper billing for one account or utility just so you have the statements as ID? It's surprising how often you need a proof of address.

in a weeks time they will have moved so why you are telling them to take out a service they are not allowed to access is  surely you being a postie knows that a call and collect and keepsafe are services linked to the persons present address, not an address they are moving to.

but they still have access now and for a few days yet to sort out a keepsafe, granted time is not on their side, but "moving next week" could be fri? in which case there's plenty of time, and any mail kept in the office will then be redirected if/when that starts
or has you said, its possible to get cs to put a hold on named mail pending a redirection
  • If your statements are online you should be able to log in online and download a copy to print or attach to an email.

to the original post, start a call & collect or keepsafe depending on how far you are moving, until you can get a proper redirection in,
don't rely on the new occupant hoping us forwarding it to the new address,

So many inaccuracies with this advice I'm not sure where to start...

The 'Call and Collect' service as you may be aware was renamed to 'Parts Express' and more recently has been renamed again to 'Royal Mail Relay'. As the OP hasn't indicated that they are a business or need to send packages to multiple branches, I'm not sure how this helps them.

Perhaps you actually meant 'Mail Collect' - but as the customer has or is moving, the service is no use to them as it is only for the current occupier. Also I believe the ID requirements for Mail Collect are the same as for a Redirection, and it takes roughly the same amount of time to set up.

A Keepsafe again is only for the current occupier, and takes as long to set up. Furthermore you cannot collect mail which is held on a Keepsage, it must be delivered back to the original address - so this would be no use for them whatsoever.

So long as the new occupiers are willing to forward the mail then this is a perfectly practical solution. It is reliant on them being willing and able to do it, but so long as they are it will work.

You're missing the point, a keepsafe is only good whilst they are still in the old property as a keepsafe is delivered by the postie not collected! and a Call and collect takes just as long to set up as a redirection.

All I'm saying is, a call to Customer services will be all it takes to solve this problem, rather than telling the customer to ask for a service that is either breaking the rules or just not suited, not to mention a keepsafe costs money! Getting Customer services to hold the mail until the redirection kicks in doesn't.

Well, the bank did print a statement and I printed a credit card statement which together with a couple of passports did the trick. The only problem then was I'd filled in the form in black but the OH has signed in blue so they rejected the form. Fortunately the man who was "just doing as he was told" was overruled by the manager so eventually I was allowed to give them some money and we will see how well it works as from early next week.

    given the timescales
I would be tempted to confirm they have a redirection for you the day before it should start
if you get a "to the occupier" letter, then that means it should be fine as those letters go to the DO alongside the redirections.
