Error message when trying to open some forum thread pages

Good experimenting. I was about to post and say that it works fine in Chrome, Firefox, and Internet Explorer. But that's using the default number of posts per page. You appear to have figured out the problem.

Viewing in 40 posts per page forces our servers to do a bit more work. 100% more work to be exact. 99% of the time it's not a problem. There's not much I can do about the 1% of the time when it is a problem. Unfortunately. As the "fix" would involve slowing down the forums for all users, all of the time.

We need to keep the forums nice and quick to avoid inconveniencing our users. So I hope you can accept switching to 20 posts per page on rare occasions as a work around for this problem. Thanks for your patience.

Nope.

I have mine set to the "Use forum default" option, which appears to be 20.

Thanks Ian, great explanation and I'm very happy to switch to the 'standard' 20 now I know why.
