I don't agree. It's more about teaching him not to throw it down the stairs more than anything.0

Exactly-but the time to teach him that is before you buy him one.
The alternative is that he has to be supervised all the time he uses it, and it removed from him at other times-which I suspect is not qute what the OP wants. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
My 3 year old has been using our family iPad 2 for over a year. He's never throw it - and if he ever did he'd be in getting in tremendous trouble and not using it for a long time.
I'd suggest working on the parenting skills before you provide your child with an expensive device to break. That's an honest thing as a dad of 2 little boys
Otherwise - buy a cheap Android tablet and expect it to break fairly quickly0 -
My 4.5 year old is a high functioning child with autism, he has used all my ipads (1-3) since he was 3.
He enjoys all the apps i have downloaded for him, ranging from flash card and colouring apps up too and including the occasions i let him play angry birds!
It is housed in a griffin survivor case, but to be honest it has never been dropped thrown or anything vaguely risky!
The ipad is a great tool and his special needs school uses them extensively, he has developed massively from it....so much so he is able to name all the planets in our galaxy / solar system and recognise them by sight.0 -

He plays most games installed on my iPad ranging from simple Thomas the Tank colouring in to Grand Theft Auto
Does he usually get a lot of points for running over pedestrians? Or picking up a prostitute or two?0 -
To compare a 3 year old using a tablet to 4 year old with a smartphone is a rediculous comparative.
The tablet offers a far greater range for learning and personal development as apposed to a phone which offers nothing!
The apps that are available for ipads for children off all ranges teach a multitude of skills and aid to development milestones.0 -
Hi,
I think the op is more asking if anyone has some good ideas as to what would be a good tablet for a three year old.
I bought my 2 year grand daughter this year an innotab(now she is not interested in my iphone)
I am all for letting kids learn at an early age.
My two kids were on an atari pc 20 years ago. at an age of 3 and 5.
My kids (and presently granddaughter) enjoyed drawing with paints and crayons and other 'normal' toys.
Back to the op-- I would suggest an innotab. Look it up on google, he will love it.

No because he has no idea how to do that ! He doesn't drag people out of the cars , he gets his cars from the parking lot and tends to just drive up and down the roads until he drives into buildings and then he goes back and gets another car or bike . He is a very good driver and crashes into buildings on purpose , harmless fun really as all he sees it as doing is driving around in a car !!!Baby Thomas born 3 months early by emergency section on 21/1/09 weighing 1lb 15ozs .
Thomas came home after 3 months and 2 days in hospital weighing 5lb 15ozs
Thomas weighed 21lb 4ozs on his 1st birthday , a total weight gain of 18lbs 5ozs !
