I am after a cheap tablet for my 3 year old , to keep him off my iPad which he consistently drops down the stairs every blooming day

Have seen these 2 on Amazon but just wondered if anyone could suggest anything else or let me know what is the better one out of these 2 , thanks in advance

Tablet for a 3 year old?
    Has the world gone mad?
    What next-smartphone for a 4 year old?
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • What's wrong with books, crayons, educational toys especially one's that encourage the kid's imagination. Put your iPad in the drawer, read to him, draw with him, make things with him and play with him. As for a tablet I would suggest a junior aspririn for when he drops himself down the stairs. I'm with macman the world is going mad.

As said on another thread if the OP wants a parenting lesson they would ask for one. Everyone has their own way of parenting and who are you or I to tell the OP how to do it.

As for the question in hand. All the Tablets will be suitable though 2 of them have the latest OS system and the the futeko seems to get good reviews and seems to the best out of the three at a quick glance.
  • I bought a Leappad Explorer for my 3yr old last year. Unlike an android tablet they are 'locked' to the software you provide, yes the apps/games can cost a chunk but the ones it comes with plus a Cars and a Princess game have kept my daughter amused for a year! Those games still aren't complete either! She will probably get another game or two for her birthday/Christmas this year (a week apart!) but she is so 'IT savvy' I wouldn't want her having a std tablet. She uses an old laptop to watch netflix but that is closely supervised, her Leappad goes up to her bedroom and she uses it independently!

Just another POV and something I had to think about a year ago! The older ones are around £50 too :)

How is the OP going to prevent his son chucking even a cheap tablet down the stairs every day?
AFAIK, Androids don't bounce any better than iPads...
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

My post was not a lesson in parenting, I was suggesting alternatives in a money saving vein, I still feel the OP would get more value from my suggestion as would the grandson, how long is a £100 tablet going to last, notwithstanding the fact it will probably "old tech" within months, No-tech solutions never go out of fashion.

Times have moved on now. Most schools use computers and even tablets now in conjunction with other methods with regards to learning.

My kids IPAD has been going strong for 2 years now. My kids still love to draw/paint etc and the IPAD is part of their learning experience.

I have found that most of the presents my kids get are used for a couple of weeks and never used again. With regards to the tablet we have though the whole family uses it and if looked after no reason a £60 tablet shouldn't last for a couple of years or longer and therefore be good vaule for money.

This alone makes me suggest you stop letting him use your ipad, or you go buy a griffin (or similar) survivor case in the mean time for your own.

By buying a cheaply made tablet, expect it to last a few weeks beyond his "gift" date. Apple are one of (many) the better made tablets, if you feel you want to throw away some money in a short time, try a charity box! :D

Not advising against getting one, but you need to have serious consideration if that he does that to yours currently, then a cheaper made tablet is just a disaster waiting to happen.
In all, I would suggest a childs tablet, like the leapfrog ones. They are built for abuse far more than anything on the adult market.

What is with the wooden bricks and pencil crew currently bashing grandparents/aunts/uncles/parents for wanting to get tech toys for their kids? Just quit advising on their parenting methods, and advise only on what they ask, or does the post count mean so much to them??
