Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 21st October. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all - for some reason I got up at 5am on a Sunday. Still trying to figure out why! I think I must've caught up on all the sleep I need for now.
Yesterday was very quiet. Did a big shop on foot with DH and the wally trolley; spent £45 shopping around and saved at least £11 by not going to a big supermarket. Discovered Farmfoods is great for extra mature Cheddar (£5/kg), decent loo rolls (24 for £4), and basic spuds (2kg for 99p). Had great fun analysing it all on my spreadsheet, and I'll come in under budget this month, which is pleasing. Took advantage of Lidl's weekend offers. Lunch today is gammon with a maple syrup glaze, mash and buttered cabbage, and I'll whizz up a lemon drizzle cake or Victoria sponge. DH was unimpressed by last night's dinner of spud + cheese and jam tarts + custard, but that's just tough. Why do they want dinner every single night (sob)?!
Lots of laundry to do and sort through, and I'm determined to get at least one bag of books to the charity shop. Taking Mum home tonight. Aiming to make today a productive one.
EDIT: Just managed to clear the slow-draining bathroom sink by putting 4 tablespoons of borax down + flushing through with a kettle of boiling water 30 minutes later.
Have a good day everyone"Save £12k in 2019" #120 - £100,699.57/£100,0000 -
Well the !!!!!! has kind of hit my fan. I am a student and thanks to Student Finance ineptness still have had no money. I also have clinical depression and was on the right medication and all but the money stress has given me some breakthrough depression and I'm very low. So I have a little money to tide me over but I don't know how long I will need it for, and it's making me very unmotivated for basic OS skills like meal planning. I am not sure what will help. Also I've got insomnia which you might be able to notice
I am proud of doing some tidying though considering I haven't done so in weeks and the noodle pots were building up :money:Now just have to get on with laundry...
If only I could pay my rent in noodle pots!0 -
Morning all
Hugs to Hilstep, Molly & Twofishes.
BB, I hope Maud is doing ok.
Lazy day planned for today, I have the rest of last weeks joint of beef defrosting in the kitchen, so I just have the veggies to cook.
Hubby is still in bed, I've taken him up a cuppa.
The washing basket is empty & the stuff on the airer's is almost dry.
Shopping yesterday only came to £12, we still have carrots, cabbage, sprouts & lettuce in garden.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Morning all!!
My oh My I had a lazy day yesterday, didn't get out of bed till 1pm! and proceeded to have lunch and dinner out, so not very OS at all...
Today, i need to tidy tidy tidy and get all my clothes washed, I'm not staying here tonight so need to get onto that sharpish, I'm also meeting my mum for lunch, so no cooking again!! (i could get used to this! shame I can't really afford to!)
Hoping for a NS week if possible - or until Friday at least, as I'm out alot at the weekend and don't get paid till the 31st.
Hope everyone has a lovely Sunday, can't believe the weekend is nearly over again!Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500

Morning everyone
Hugs to those that need/want them that are having a hard/sad time at the moment x
DH woke me stupid early as he was awake, so I'm now on here enjoying a cuppa whilst he is in the bath, he'll be going out first thing to collect his work van for tomorrow, he's going to take both DS's with him and visit outlaws etc whilst he is out as they live close to his work, so after that we'll be having a lazy day at home today.
Twofishes - hugs, have had depression myself although not badly, so can understand how difficult this can be, just take baby steps. I've always found trying to push on and making loads of "to do" lists can get a bit overwhelming - so little and often, and making a list albeit a small one, then marking off when you've achieved something does help. Take it steady x ps, have you checked with Citizens Advice Bureau that you're getting all monies/benefits you're entitled too and also speak to Student services at your college/Uni to see if they can help push your case? Failing that lots of places now have foodbanks, is there one in your area?
Still a bit dark, looks overcast and dry although wet underfoot after we had some rain during the night, Indian summer for a few days from tomorrow - or so the weatherman says, we'll see!
Dinner last night was delicious gammon steaks, egg, onion sauce, mash and veg. Lunch today will be roast leg of lamb, roast pots, mash, cauli/brocc cheese, carrots, spring greens sauteed with garlic, green beans, yorkshires and gravy. Made sure I put a bottle of white wine in the fridge last night so nice and chilled to accompany the lunch today. Have some apples that need using up so will make apple crumble for dessert although we don't very often eat a dessert after a big Sunday lunch - it'll be there for whoever wants some over the next few days. Pleased with ourselves as very often on a Sat night if I haven't menu planned we'd finish up wasting money on a takeaway - but I had made sure this weekend we had a meal organised so no takeaway ordered thus saving at least £20 - actually think the quality of our local takeaway has become a bit hit and miss - sometimes it's excellent and others it's awful and we've had items missing and not realised until delivery driver has gone and I've paid - they would come back with it but by then the rest of the meal is cold so haven't bothered in the past.
Was reasonably productive again yesterday, went to town first thing, was a bit of a waste of time as was unable to get the study guide that DS1 needs but he will speak to school this week and find out how we can get the one he needs. DS2 did an hours' worth of workbook too. Whilst they were studying I got in the kitchen and made a banana and honey loaf - bananas were past their best, but ok to cook with, made a dozen mince pies, and a big batch of cup cakes, also the apple crumble (once made!) will be a dessert - so we're sorted at least for the next few days! Will also get a menu plan down on paper this morning so I go into the week feeling somewhat prepared as we're away again on Friday morning - just me and DH, really looking forward to it and hoping that this sore throat and cough are long gone by then, am feeling better daily now.
Have a good day, stay safe and well x

Morning everyone,
Hugs to Molly, LW, Hilstep and Twofishes.
How is Maud BB?
Up early as OH and DS have gone to Grimsby where DS has a rugby match to play, rather him than me!
The girls and I are going to church later and then I think that I will get some of my marking done before having a cup uf tea with a friend.
Tea tonight is roast pork although the joint doesn't look big enough so I will have to add some sausages and stuffing balls too. It is a shame as I was hoping for leftovers.
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Thank you for all the lovely hugs xx
I have now got a surge of energy but not sure what to do today?
Will be back later xxI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all,
Thanks for the kind wishes for mum and dad, we had a lovely afternoon, lots of good food and chat and tea!, dad started to get really tired and a bit stressed by 7ish, so we took him back, but I think he had a good time.
Lots of leftovers, so that's what we will be having today so no effort today, I have a load of ebay sales finishing today, doing very well, so need to get them wrapped, and get a load more listed.
House was done right through yesterday so apart from 2 loads of washing and a tidy of the kitchen and changing the bed, nothing much will happen house wise.
Cat smith, I do hope your dh will be ok.
Have good days all xx0 -
Morning :hello:
I'm sooooooo tired, I've hardly slept all week. For the next couple of days I'm going to get everything done in the morning then try to sleep in the afternoon.
I have two short washing lines between the house and the shed, we built a roof over the area. We put some cane furniture under there, along with an old coffee table - I refer to it as my outdoor loungeThe washing's been out there for two days and hasn't dried at all, the air is so damp.
Saw a family of robins in the garden just now (didn't know they had babies this late in the year?) so that cheered me up
One more coffee then I might get dressed.Bulletproof0 -
