A high proportion of cyclists on the forum are also motorists.
Unfortunately I don't see many cases of car-driving keyboard warriors saying "ah right, now I understand"; they don't want to be educated. Any more than I (as a cyclist and motorcyclist, with a car licence for 30 years) want to be 'educated' by some 25-year-old who assumes I'm on a bike because I can't drive.
The point of my post was that I DO want both on the same board, but in the context of the type of journey; my comment about not having to read moronic anti-cycling posts was because that's one of the few upsides of the split.Long-haul Supporters DFW 120

I'm thinking MSE admin are not cyclists either0

The minority of motorists on this site who believe paying "road tax" entitles them to more than cyclists are swiftly proven wrong. Hopefully this follows through into the real world.Unfortunately I don't see many cases of car-driving keyboard warriors saying "ah right, now I understand"0 -

No it doesn't. It educates people about how much antipathy there is, but that shouldn't really come as news to anyone.Cyclists have proven themselves very capable of defending themselves against any ignorant and unpleasant motorists and motorists have an opportunity to voice their views.
The place for people to tear each other to shreds over their bigoted opinions is Discussion Time.
The evidence is that very few cyclists were interested in defending themselves against unpleasant motorists - there were very few cycling posts in the Motoring forum before.A high proportion of cyclists on the forum are also motorists.

The way this thread might fail is through being boring. You are doing your best by making the same point again and again.
Personally I welcome the split although older posts have not been transferred across.0 -
Hi guys
A suggestion was made, we liked the idea, and thought why not.
If it means cyclists have an area to post where their questions are more likely to be answered that's great.
It's early days but already it looks as though more people are asking questions on cycling than before. If this means they're more likely to have their questions answered I don't think that can be a bad thing?Could you do with a Money Makeover?

I personally see it as a strange mix

I quite agree. I know there are people on here who use both, but I don't believe there's any kind of implicit link between the two.
Sure, some people cycle to the train station...but you know what, a lot of people drive there, too.
Personally, I don't use any kind of public transport, but both drive and cycle, being a fan of *private* transportation.
The most I have to do with buses is when they (frequently) try and run me off the road on my bike.
I echo thelawnet, above...three forums...public transport, bikes and motoring. More people will ask questions (and thus get the answers they're looking for) in a dedicated forum for bikes and "get off the road" motorists can swiftly be shown the door.0 -
Cycling was split from motoring as a non motoring forum user found the majority of posts unrelated to them which is understandable. But combining cycling with public transport makes little sense.
Can I suggest a seperate cycling board.A suggestion was made, we liked the idea, and thought why not.0
