Tax Disc

My current TD runs out at the end of this month - renewed on line earlier in the week, new TD came today - new TD now in place in the windscreen with the old one behind it.
Simples
And with that method you could get a simple fine for not displaying a valid tax disc.
Tilt,
You would want both on display because you may forget to swap them over at the end of the month and you don't have to stay awake until midnight to swap them over (if you park on the street) on the last night.0 -

I wouldn't and I don't. Just like I don't forget to have my car MOTd before the last one expires.PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0 -
FromDirect.govA current tax disc must be displayed on the vehicle it was bought for. If you buy a new tax disc before your current tax disc expires, you should not display the new one until the old one has expired. The new tax disc is only valid from the first day of the month you have taxed from. The maximum penalty for failure to display a current tax disc is £200.

There's nowt wrong with displaying both, the wording of direct.gov is very poor on a lot of subjects.0 -

Technically, displaying both may count as driving with an obstructed view of the road. There's an exemption for the "obstructions within the swept area" rule for official documents such as tax disks, but untill the start of the month the new one is just a piece of paper so wouldn't qualify.
That said, it would have to be a seriously anal traffic warden or policeman who decided to act on it!
As for direct.gov, don't forget that they're trying to explain things to people who'd get lost with the full explantion even with a guide-book, sat-nav and Official Tour Guide to help them :rotfl:0 -
That's the situation I'm in. Mine runs out at the end of this month and I'm on holiday from sunday until 5th november. My car will be left in a hotel car park. I've bought my new one but it hasn't been delivered yet. If it arrives tomorrow which one should I display? If it doesn't arrive am I right in thinking it will be ok with the old one as they can see I've applied for one on line. I think you get 5 days grace.Maybe if you're going on holiday and your tax disc is due to expire when you're away?0 -
If you're going to be away (so the car isn't moving) then use Lum's suggestion of placing one on the dashboard. There's nothing to say they have to be stuck to the windscreen, just that they must be displayed (and visible from the n/s of the car iirc)0

You do get the days of grace.
So you can leave the old one on alone.0
