It is possible the Tesco firmware is different to the Vodafone version.

That's quite a monthly contract you are on if cutting back a bit frees up enough cash for an extension!

I use my phone very little to make calls. perhaps an average of 10 to 15 mins a month. I do use it though to text, probably an average of 200 a month. Would PAYG sound like a viable option for me? I get so confused with all the options

It would have been if you didn't send quite so many text messages.
I use FishText to send text messages on my Blackberry, but as yours is GPRS/EDGE only it might be a bit slow to access the page..

So perhaps Tesco Mobile on a rolling one month contract.
