Carpenter quote for replacing internal doors

Hi
I am currently renovating my home and looking to replace all the internal doors in the house in the existing frames. We have been using a carpenter for various other jobs and has been good. He is quoting us £60 per door to replace (labour only), which seems quite a lot to me - more or less the same price as the replacement doors themselves, which I would buy myself. Does anyone else have an idea of what a reasonable labour cost would be for a carpenter to do this?
Before I start inviting other carpenters in for quotes I thought I'd check. Many thanks!

Sounds reasonable. I expect there would require some making good to the old frames, filling etc if the new lock and hinges are in difference places. Additionally he may have to cut the door before hanging ( sometimes trickier in a renovation as existing frames may be out of line ) , hang the door, add handle and lock (?) then if you are lying new flooring remove the door and plane afterwards( I'd check his price includes this). I'm not sure what area you live it but this price sounds reasonable to me.0

It depends where you live. I would have thought it was about right. If he is known to be a neat worker, then I'd be happy to pay that, it beats paying £40 per door to a cack handed muppet. I was chatting with the man who co-owns the local hardware shop. His brother is a carpenter, and he said that hanging a door is the most difficult job he does. I've hung 8 doors, and it took me half a day per non-fire door, a carpenter would do it in half the time.Sounds reasonable. He would simply put the hinges in the same place. He will almost certainly have to plane the doors. A good chippy can do that fairly quickly. And yes he will have to fit the lock and handle. And he will have to leave the correct spacing at the bottom for carpet/flooring, as long as the OP tells him what kind of flooring there will be. 20mm is generally enough for carpet.
There is a lot that can go wrong with hanging a door. For example, if the frame leans into the room, then you will need rising butt hinges.
Also bear in mind that some of the doors might need to be fire doors. If you have an attached garage, then the door between the garage and house must be a fire door. They are a begger to hang, and require intumescent stripping fitting into the door edge. So expect to pay double.Warning: This forum may contain nuts.0 -
Just asked my dad who is a joiner.. He charges around £40 per door. However most of the joiners he knows charges around £60 but as my dad only does homers for friends and family he does jobs for a slightly lower rate.
The rest of his joinery work is done through a company and he doesnt get involved in the costings.
He did say though that if have found a joiner that you are happy with, then probably try and hang onto him, if his other prices have been fair then its likely that is what he charges for hanging doors and probably isnt overcharging you.0 -
If your talking about needing 2 or 3 hinges fitted, handles, sawing or planing to size then hanging then that's the same as I had done 2 years ago. We had 9 internal doors fitted at £50 each. Same price as they cost to buy each. Btw the worst is yet to come...painting them. Still gives me nightmares...3 coats of paint each side0

Thats a fair price and very similar to what we are paying to have 6 doors hungfrugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -

Sounds about correct to me to, factor in the murphy factor, hinges and tools and the fact that the guy has to live and you'll see why.
Would I pay it? No I dam well wouldn't, but I'm not the guy in need, DIY rules:D:DI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Crumbs, I'm glad my hubby is a chippy.0
