Split the motoring forum

Options
Can it be split?

I would suggest separate Motoring and Public Transport & Cycling forums.

Motoring is a pretty much self-contained pursuit and doesn't have much relevance to cycling or public transport, and many posters interested in motoring appear to have a dislike of cycling, so it's not really a recipe for harmony.

Obviously there is a connect between public transport and cycling - people cycle to the station, bikes go on trains, etc., so these would fit well together.

At the moment the great majority of the forum's posts are about motoring, which is pretty tedious if you are not interested in cars but are interested in public transport or cycling.

If only the same could be done for the roads, keeping the two separate.

Reminds me of when they build the Supertram in Sheffield.
The problem with the busses was that they were always delayed due to traffic on the roads. So they built this new tram network that didn't have to rely on the roads.
Then, through all the central parts of the city, put the tram lines on the roads. So they still got stuck in the same traffic as the busses.
    Grrrr.

[Good suggestion, though, OP. Maybe a sub-forum for cycling and public transport if the majority is about cars?]

Other than the fact that they all share the same roads and are subject to the same Highway Code etc.

People drive cars to the station as well, so there's just an obvious a 'connect' there as well. (And if you get the right kind of carriages you can even fit cars on trains as well.)

It might or might not be a good idea to have a separate cycling forum, but the arguments presented here are utter nonsense.

    Thanks for doing that!

But would it be possible to have the forum separate, rather than a sub-forum? I don't really see that public transport/cycling is a subset of motoring at all, IYSWIM?

    Blimey, that was quick work!
  • Do you think it would be better to have cycling in it's own sub forum? or perhaps have a; Transport Forum with sub forums of motoring, Public transport and cycling?

I thin a separate cycling would be better, but at present there are probably not enough cycling posts on the site for this to happen.

I think we already have an air travel forum, not sure about transport sub-forums tbh.

The majority of bus or train users will have no interest in cycling issues. The majority of cyclists share the roads with motorists and will have shared experiences.
While using public transport a cyclist is a passenger pushing a bike.
I support a public transport board but not the inclusion of cycling in it. As previously mentioned by others, why create a board based on a thread with 7 posts?.

Actually I agree about cycling being separate, but I didn't want to sound greedy asking for two new forums. ;)
