Diverting incoming calls while I'm abroad - O2 monthly contract
Options
I wonder if anyone can clarify this. I have just had a very confusing live chat with an O2 person, and I don't think he understands the question - I suspect they are in an overseas call-centre
I'm going abroad soon, and want to divert all my incoming calls to a UK landline number while I'm away. Will I be charged for receiving those calls as if abroad, or do those diverted calls come out of my usual tariff ?
I can use a divert code to do the diversion (**21* NUMBER SEND), and want to divert just as I leave the UK. I probably won't turn the phone on again until I return.
Now in that case, O2 won't know that I'm away, will they? So no international charges can be applied.
However, If I wanted to call family when I'm away and switched on the phone, might I get charged for the diverted calls at that point ? I don't think so, and don't see why I should.
But am I taking too simple a view here ?

I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Do you turn your Voicemail off before you go abroad? Could be expensive otherwise. Mine is off permanently, as I travel regularly.0

well I will turn voicemail off, but nothing should go to it anyway, as all calls should be diverted to my company answering service (as in **21* diverts all incoming calls)I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
I think you will be fine if, as you plan, you set an _unconditional_ divert for all calls. As you say, if you do that, whether Voicemail is on or off should make no difference.
Whether it is necessary to do this before you leave the UK, and then not disturb the arrangement before your return, is less clear to me. It might depend on the roaming network you are on whether you can control things from abroad.
However, doing it before you leave and not changing it unless you really want to, should be safe. Switching the phone on, and making outbound calls, should not be a problem.0 -
Have you considered adding on the My Europe Extra bolt on? I'm sure you can do it just for a month and i think its around £5 (sorry mine is done all year round for work so not exactly sure)
It means that all incoming calls are free and it reduces the cost of making calls to so might work out better if you actually want to make / receive calls.
Hope that helps!0 -

thanks for that info, but I don't really want to receive work calls while I'm on holiday. Also, some of the time we'll be at sea, and I think receiving calls on the maritime network is :eek:I try not to get too stressed out on the forum.
