It's all completely normal. I tortured myself for weeks and weeks after I lost my cat worrying that I'd given up on him too quickly, that what if we were all wrong and it was nothing serious? What if he thought I'd given up on him?
But now with a bit of distance I know that I did all I could for him. To have kept him going, alive but not really living, in pain, 'in case he got better' would have been utterly selfish, doing the wrong thing and for all the wrong reasons. Too many animals are kept alive and in pain because their owners cannot make the difficult, painful decision they really have to make.
You did the right thing, at the right time, for the right reasons. That is the ultimate show of love for a pet - putting your own feelings aside for the sake of theirs. You do know that, really, but grief does funny things. Your girl knows it too. And of course you can feel her presence - she's still with you! As long as you remember her and think of her she'll never really leave xx0 -
Puppypants - so sorry you are going through this.
Huge well done to you for taking on your girl and giving her such a wonderful life.
Yes, as others have said, you have given Katie such a huge act of kindness by letting her go and it gives you heartache in return at the moment. The guilt is also part of what you are going through - the what if? is not a real question, as your vet knew what was best for Katie. Instead, it's 'just' a scenario that we torment ourselves with as we struggle to cope with the loss. But you will get through this and, in time, look back with smiles at happy memories. That takes time, so be as kind to yourself now as you would be to a good friend who was going through this.
Big (((hugs))) to you
