The myth of the indulgent flatscreen TV society

Couldn't wait and save up...oh no no no..."forced to" rent
Might start a babyboomer thread just to wind you up and let you go on about how the youth want everything now
Wrong again Graham!
I don't hate young people at all. Only most of the things they do.
By all means start a whole baby boomer section. Doesn't exactly wind me up. I'm already wound up, and always looking for nonsense, drivel, and cant that contradict my own nonsense, drivel, and cant.
Some people I consider to be 'low hanging fruit'....
But sun having gone down over the yardarm (in this neck of the woods anyway) I shall sign off and go downstairs for a couple of large ones.
I shall look for all the new nonsense when I ultimately return...0 -
Modern society has a luddite thread to it that does no favours, I know someone who almost spent 200 repairing a CRT instead of buying new when this makes no sense
Dont flatscreens cost less to run, its the CRT that is decadent like people still eating using silver cutlery and porcelain with nothing plastic or modern
Ive made a few grand in a morning and not much else the rest of the year.
Consistency counts considerably is what I always try to remembertroubleinparadise wrote: »My husband is truly MSE gold

I have a 26" Samsung I bought 5 years ago which is still working great. Good make, Samsung.
EDIT: was only £350 back then.
It's Samsung that have let me down a bit. That's the TV in the lounge with the darker patches on the screen.
Funnily enough, it's the bush TV that doesn't seme to die. However, you never know what you have inside TV's these days, as most of them are rebadged anyway. Like Argos have bought the brand new Bush. it's not the same stuff though, they just whack the name on the plastic outers.0 -

But as my mother used to say - you may WANT something - but you don't NEED it!0 -
Lets be honest it also depends on your use of such tech.
ie, I have a 3DTV, but I am into films (and 3D ones) but also I have my PC hooked up (despite it being upstairs) to which gaming in 3D is great.
I do know others who buy such tech just to say they have it but never actually use it.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Graham seems rather partial to them if the amount of youth traffic in his bedroom 'Cathode Ray Tube Museum' is anything to go by.0 -
My parents always rented their telly - and very reluctantly upgraded to colour from the cheaper B & W when that was all they were offered in the end; in fact, I only cancelled my mum's agreement with what used to be Radio Rentals (now Box Clever) 3 years ago.
I didn't ask, but I reckon she must have been one of the last few people in the country still renting their telly.
Unless someone out there knows better?0 -

I've just looked the website up...
Check it out. You can still rent traditional CRT's....even the square type instead of widescreen!

Blimey!
I can see your thinking......
But I have to be honest. Graham is a lot of things, but I've never detected any 'Savillesque' tendencies at all. I don't think he's "fixing it" for anyone if you get my drift.
My theory would be different. I am strongly of the opinion that the message has finally 'got through' that most of everyone else's posts can be understood by 12-year-olds. My god, we all tell him that enough times.
So he has finally cottoned on to the need for an army of 12-year-olds to read the posts and tell him what they mean - to avoid him shooting himself in the foot as much.....
Makes sense to me, anyway.0 -

I don't think there is any 'Savilling' going on either. I actually believe that the whole thing was made up and the nephew (if he indeed exists) never said any such thing. A lot of people on internet forums make up stuff and try to give it some credence by cracking on that 'someone down the pub' or 'some high up in finances said'.
I'm the seeker of truth and justice, just trying in a humble way to keep everyone on the path of righteousness. It's interesting that Graham would ratehr be seen as a !!!!!! than come clean and go "actually I made that up". Speaks volumes about his character.0
