One Christmas as a child I was given a dusty dolls house that had no furniture and a huge unmissable crack in the roof, obviously scrounged from the attic of one of my parents' friends whose kids had got good use out of it.
As an adult, my dad once gave me a travel pack of moist toilet tissue. Another time he forgot me altogether and only realised as my mother and sister opened their presents on Christmas day.0 -
I have a couple of mates that clearly don't put any thought into gifts and as long as they're handing over something don't really care. This is the year I've decided to stop agonising over their gifts in return so I am sure I'll get something immaculately thought through this year!
My worst includes a giant pair of white and pink fluffy Playboy slippers with added sequins and glitter. I'm the furthest away from Playboy you can get and have very manly taste in clothes and shoes! To be honest though they had got the right size and they are damn comfy slippers so they didn't turn out to be such a thoughtless gift after all, face must have been a picture when I opened them though
My gran (a misogynistic woman who had 3 sons and hated all of her daughters in law) was also a literal shopaholic and charity shop fiend and once gave my mum a cheapo black ornament of a lady doing the splits and then some that was chipped and had the poor statue's foot sticking out of the newspaper she had wrapped it in. Luckily my mum thought it was hilarious...0 -

When we were much younger, she bought my cousin frog-themed items for about 5 or 6 Christmasses running, before he finally had the courage to tell her he didn't like frogs. Or rather, he had the "courage" to flounce off in a huff bellowing "I DON'T EVEN LIKE FROGS! I'VE JUST GOT A GREEN BEDROOM!"
She bought my 2 month old daughter a ceramic pencil holder from a National Trust property last year.
I do love the fact she thinks of us in her own little way though. Far nicer and more amusing than a tenner shoved in a card
On a different note, my friend bought me a Fray Bentos pie for my 21st birthday.1,2 & 5p: Christmas day food £9.31

my cousin bought my 10 yo brother a barbie pony from a car boot sale and has something brown & stinky in the tail (make your own assumptions lol)
same cousin also bought:

13 &15 yo (male) cousins balaclavas for ages 9
my sister & me the poundstretcher barbies when we were 16&14

The worst presents I've ever got were from in-laws (funnily enough!)
Ex's Mum bought me an ankle-length fleecy tartan nightie one Christmas as she always used to tell me and ex off for sleeping nakedMy own Mum thought it was hilarious! However it did fit and I used to wear it like a dressing gown, I kept it for years until it fell to bits and I had to get rid of it. It was way too warm to wear in bed, even when ex and I split and I went back to wearing nighties/pj's but it did come in handy!
I once made the mistake of mentioning to OH's estranged Mum that I liked wine. While they were still speaking, she bought me 12 bottles of white wine  I only drink rose....luckily, OH's Dad and stepmum are pretty good with presents - they usually give OH and I £50 between us which is always very gratefully received
and I have to say OH has never bought me a duff present. Probably because I choose what I want then he pays for it. That way we're both happy

Once i received a basket from an ex's mum. How weird, it was just a rectangular shaped wicker basket lined with fabric...plus, i had nowhere to store it, so it's been in my loft ever since.0
