My dad once ended up with 26 pairs of socks as no one knew what to get him. Since that xmas he has been far more vocal about what he would like and is now one of the easiest to buy a present for :D
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.

Wow I must have been really lucky so far! My fiance always buys me what I want although a couple of years ago he bought me a massive book on Israel and a dvd to go with it. This is because I'd like to go to Israel, he's upset that I haven't watched/read them!

Worst present has to be from my grandparents. When I was about 16, we were given our presents, a couple of bigger ones and a small square one. I opened the small one to find a really nice, vintage ring box. I was so excited to open it, when I did I saw this hideous plastic "gold" ring with the stick on "gem". The kind you get as a child for about 10p! I was gutted. My sister received the same so we looked at eachother. They were in the bin as soon as we got home.

My aunt is renowned for buying rubbish presents for everyone but I cant actually think of any really awful ones!!
  • When I was 20 I got a book about Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease.

The only thing I can possibly think is that they thought it was a horror fiction, because they knew I liked Stephen King. Or they were calling me a mad cow.
"Most of the people ... were unhappy... Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pieces of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams

  • A diary and calendar set for that year (1week left)

A peach frilly cropped top when I was 8 months pregnant

And - I think this one deliberate - a 24x12 inch canvas of the worse photo of me I have ever seen. Hair everywhere, looking goofy, bloated, you name it. Giver knew I hated the photo!
I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be

When I was about 11 my sister and I both got old-fashioned wooden toys for Christmas. My mum had obviously been to a craft fair and thought that because she enjoyed playing with wooden tops as a young girl we would too! I think mum and dad played with them more than us!
That same year, for my birthday, everybody who came to the party bought me a soap set - I have religiously showered every day since lol.
My OH is rubbish at buying pressies. I am quite vocal now about what I want (saying things like "that would be my ideal present") but he forgets too quickly and I end up with whatever is available at the all night supermarket. I forgive him though as if he is not working then we are together so it is nigh impossible for him to buy something in secret.
  • My aunt is legendary for her bad presents, best ones had to be the year she gave me soap and a flannel, not in a fancy box/gift set or anything, just a bright red flannel and soap she'd 'borrowed' from a hotel. The next year I got a big bag of lentils.

DH's parents didn't get us anything last year and just gave us things they had got that they didn't want. I got some cheap perfume that irritates MIL's sensitive skin and DH got a man's toiletry set because his step dad didn't like the scent. I wouldn't have minded the re-gifting so much if they'd re-wrapped them and hadn't told us! It's not the lack of money spent that bothered me, it's the lack of thought or effort.

my dad gives horrendous presents. So much so that it's now become the most fun part of the day waiting to see what he's bought us. Every christmas eve without fail, he goes to the nearest charity shop and buys the worst things he can find. One year I got a mug saying welcome to Belmarsh Prison.
