I must have been about 7 or 8 and i got presented with this huge box wrapped in christmas wrapping paper. I opened it to find a smaller box which was wrapped. I opened that box to find another wrapped box. I kept opening these boxes to find a small watch inside. I hadnt asked for a watch and it was totally unexpected. I had asked for a walking doll with blonde hair and when i saw the box i assumed i was unwrapping what i had asked for.
Mother found it funny. I didnt.
I'll never understand the mindset of people who do that kind of thing. I remember watching a Youtube video of a young boy, maybe 10, who excitedly unwrapped his present to reveal an X Box console box. He got so excited and wide-eyed, saying thank you, thank you...until he opened the box and it was empty. You could then see and hear the family laughing their socks off at their little joke. I actually cried watching that.0 -

WHen I was a kid I wanted a Head sports bag, my dad thought it would be funny to attach a strap made out of a belt to a dolls head. I didn't think it was funny at the time, although I saw the funny side once I was given a real Head bag.
Worst adult present came from my sister, who gave me a god awful large photo of myself in a frame.0 -

I have a very kind aunt who I never see, who always gives me a £10 book voucher each Christmas and birthday. I am very grateful for this and it would be more than enough - I don't expect anything from her.
However, she always seems to feel that she should give me something 'to open' alongside it. One of the worst has been a Gardener's World address book....when I was 15. Other highlights include some clothes hangers when I was 12. I also once got a sparkly nail polish set aimed at pre-teens when I was 23. Bless her - I really appreciate the book voucher and I'm only hoping that she's sometimes recycling gifts she has been given or that she's giving me things she's found in a charity shop or on BOGOF or something, as I hope she is not spending much money on these presents as they tend to be speedily given away!0 -

Last year my mom sent me a chia pet in the shape of a christmas tree...No idea why she thought it was good gift for me and still can't believed she wasted money buying it and sending it airmail to me! I think it'll be going on ebay in the run up to christmas this year.

I recently asked my partner for a little car vacuum for my birthday (I really want one!) and he refused to buy me one because he doesn't like the idea of people hearing that he bought me a vacuum for a gift lolCommon sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0
