Not a Christmas present.... my worst gift ever was a Valentines present from my first boyfriend, I was aged 19 and he was 25. We had been together for a year. It was a book on Nostradamus... I was very puzzled, but apparently I had mentioned once in passing that I thought it was fascinating what his "predictions" were.

Perhaps travel cannot prevent bigotry. But by demonstrating that all people cry, laugh, eat, worry and die, it introduces the idea that if we try to understand each other, we may even become friends.
  • MIL is awful at buying gifts. One year she bought my OH a hair dryer - great gift except that he is bald! It was also very cheap and burned out and broke on the second usage.

Another year she bought us a garden ornament...when we lived in a flat. A big golfing frog that she had painted herself.

And last birthday, as I'd mentioned I used to like watching my grandmother's cuckoo clock when I was a child, I got a metal cuckoo clock broach, that had been spray painted "gold".

    Bless her!

My wife reckons the ironing board i once bought her....guilty as charged..:silenced:
It is nice to see the value of your house going up'' Why ?
Unless you are planning to sell up and not live anywhere, I can;t see the advantage.
If you are planning to upsize the new house will cost more.
If you are planning to downsize your new house will cost more than it should
If you are trying to buy your first house its almost impossible.

One that sticks in my mind a couple of years ago now (from by best friend's parents) - a chocolate orange. Beautifully wrapped and labelled - it was still a chocolate orange.

This year, I got a wrapped tin of shortbread they had been given through his work - the label was still on.

Not a lot you can say, and every year I know they are not going to make that much effort or though and I wish I could bring myself to spend less than £20-30 in return.

My MIL likes to get us several presents each. Included in the bag this year were a number of small boxes of raisins. Why raisins? No idea.

......... the blooms are really pretty, and the colour goes perfectly with my decor, so I know the girls took a lot of care choosing them for me!!!! its just that the vase I think they were thinking of, is way too small and I have absolutely no idea what to put them in!

I have some very tall poppies which were bought for me years ago and I have them in a tall, wicker 'vase' - obviously not intended for use with water, but I half filled it with pebbles from a seaside visit. It stands on the floor in a corner and lots of people comment on how pretty and unusual it is.

Look for large 'vessels' in charity shops, I'm sure you'll find something suitable, especially as it doesn't need to hold water :)
I let my mind wander and it never came back!
