Hi, everyone. Sad to say our eggs didn't make it. Not sure what happened, but 10 of them got to nearly fully grown (1 was unfertilised and one didn't develop after a few days).

It feels a bit like telling people early on thet you're pregnant then having to tell them all that you're not, after all.

We're starting again, but won't be letting on anything until we have some *happy events* :D

Penny sorry to hear about your disappointment - know what you mean about it being like telling people you're not pregnant after all! Understand why you won't be letting on in future.

Looking forward to the announcement in the future!

awww no penny...what a shame! 1171.gif I really do hope you are able to spread good news with us in the not too distant future.

and Squiggle, I hope maybe one day you might eventually be able to keep a couple of chickens. I never knew that they would have so much of a personality. They're great pets. The free eggs are great too. :D

Never mind PP, I was tempted to say keep your pecker up but on second thoughts I'd better not. Your incubator didn't experience a power cut at a crucial time did it ?
I didn't have the advantages of this here modern technology and had to rely on the services of a broody hen which could be a little frustrating at times. One, which was at the bottom of the pecking order turned into a right little lethal weapon as soon as her eggs started to hatch, mothering instinct ? more like killer instinct, happy days.

    Ridiculously excited about it!!!

Going to have it for breakfast, fried on some lovely doorstep thick white toast!

Pretty sure it's Edna's as she's definitely the oldest - her comb's bigger than the others'. And she laid it in the right place too! Smack in the middle of the nest box. Good girl! :j :j :j :j

yayyyyyyyy, great news cw, how exciting. I love the photo. :D We have one egg a day at the moment and as I said earlier I am expecting Dorothy may lay very soon. Infact, I am still excited every time Prudence lays her egg! Mine was a fried egg on thick white toast too! :D

    Hi
We are thinking of getting a couple of chickens but our garden is quite small, would a garden measuring 30x24foot (back of house to fence) be too small an area?, what size coop/run would be best?, will they make a huge mess of the lawn? is the coop/run best sited on hard standing or soft?
sorry I know that these are probably silly questions but am just trying to see of its something I can incoporate into our new garden
    thanks
    Jim
