As to your point about being asked to produce credit card details when booking a hotel, you are spectacularly missing the point!!
You do NOT need to give your credit card details when booking a room that is already paid for, and i have never done this when booking with Groupon or KGB.
That is what the OP is asking!!!
So every restaurant that goes out of business must be corrupt? I would suspect any restaurant that uses groupon or KGB is trying to improve business so its hardly surprising if some go bust!
You obviously stay at a lower standard of hotel than the one the OP has tried to book. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Ahh , just give up when you're beaten. You're sounding a bit desperate now:p0

I travel frequently, and have probably booked and stayed in more hotels than you have had hot dinners.:) I eat out often and am very familiar with what is normal practice.
You on the other hand sound like an apologist for very questionable business practicesholidaysforme wrote: »FYI, this particular restaurant was extremely dodgy, or at least the owners was and are now no longer trading,- nuff said:)

Also to respond to the above when the travel dept are booking my rooms I still have to give my card details and loyalty card details before I have even jumped on the plane, let alone arrive at the establishment0 -
when i was growing up I was always told "never trust a man who uses 4 or more emoticons in a forum post as they are obviously an idiot". Wow, didn't expect this to degenerate into such a squabble. To clarify, we are objecting to giving our credit card details several weeks in advance of our planned (although increasingly unlikely) stay.
We do not object to giving our credit card details when we check in as security against breakages etc, but leaving our details floating around in their system for weeks where anybody could get at them is not acceptable.
And yes, we have stayed in hotels before, and none ever asked for these details in advance, particularly when we had prepaid.0 -

I still don't understand where you are coming from. If I phone up to book a hotel room for say New Years eve then they will ask for a card number to hold my booking. Even though I won't be staying there for months.
Therefore I don't see why it matters if you hand over a card number before you stay (even though you have prepaid via KGB deals).
I can't see any difference or why the second scenario is less secure than the first one, or why its an issue.
It sounds like you are going to miss out on a night away for a very strange reason and I doubt KGB deals will have to refund you as its your own fault! This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Also I suspect the deal will say "Deal is subject to the hotels terms and conditions". I imagine having a card number is one of their T's & C's so I would guess they are perfectly within their rights to withhold a refundThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. I think you've just outlined your probem. You still
DONT understand, even now when the op has come back to clarify..
How simple can it be!
OP, i hope it works out whether you decide to go with the hotel booking or not. You are completely correct in not handing over your credit card details willy nilly.
Only an idiot would do so.
Good luck with it. X0 -

I see you've stopped with the emoticons which is a positive step for you.
I would now suggest you refrain from writing in CAPITALS and ending posts with a X as that's just a bit weird.
You're advice is very useful and helpful. If the OP follows it they don't get to stay in the hotel and lose their money as KGB won't refund.
Worse case scenario if they handed their credit card number over and it was misused? The card issuer would just refund the fraudulent transactions as they wouldn't be guaranteed by a PIN being entered.
The OP has already claimed that they are happy to provide the credit card on checkin. On checkout this card number won't just disappear it will stay in the system for as long as the companies archiving data systems are in place. Therefore no matter when the OP provides the card number it will still sit in the system for a significant period of time.
I suspect you and the OP are part of the paranoid minority who are scared of technology and the banking system!
