OP, until you can work out how papal works and tell us whether the payment was a gift or not then there is no further advice you can be given.

Basically if it was a normal payment for named goods then you can do a PayPal chargeback. If not then you will need to go to law. That's it, that is all we can tell you

However, and I know this is going to sound harsh, I would echo some of the other points above and suggest you step back from buying at the moment until you can spend some time working out how it all works and how to stay safe. Your history suggests that unless you understand safety issues around buying from strangers you are going to lose a great deal of money.

I have been experimenting with requesting a gift payment, and cannot see that it is possible. I can send a gift payment, but when I try to send a request for a payment I only get the option of services (which requires al sorts of info impossible to complete without hassle) or goods.

May I just say that if you are a journalist, there are easier ways of getting an article written about ebay and people's understanding of it and the protection it offers, than putting up frankly rather odd scenarios on a forum.

How exactly do you know it was sent as a gift? Did you have the. Only in full in your PayPal cleared balance before it went, or did you pay via a card?

  • I know it went as a personal payment as I have spoken to PayPal and they have told me I can't start a dispute and as somebody has already said the only payment you can't start a dispute about is if it was sent as a gift

That was not my question and I place very little rreliance on what paypal say, there is more than one reason why paypal may sugegst a case cannot be opened, some of which can be ignored.

It might be a personal payment, that doesn't make it a gift- and the way you describe paying is not something I can relicate as a gift.

So again, as per th evarious questions on here, how do *you* know it was sent as a gift and Did you have the balance in full in your PayPal cleared balance before it went, or did you pay via a card?

Is this for real? First you send cash through the post. If that's not bad enough you then gift it via paypal.

Yes but only after getting the 'lost/stolen' cash back first!
