I find it appauling they way this young man is being treated, don't you think if we could all say things like 'stop making excuses and stop gambling' it would be a helluva lot easier for gambling addicts?

No, it's not appalling at all. The first thing you will hear at any kind of addiction counseling is 'stop making excuses, be responsible for your situation, be responsible for getting out of your situation'. Fair play that he's sorting himself out but if you don't make yourself responsible then you are just leaving yourself the excuses you need to fall back into addictive behaviour.

Whilst I also see gambling as stupidity it is also an addiction so if you have nothing helpful to say then perhaps it would be better off if you posted elsewhere on the forum as you are all more then capable of offering good, helpful and valued advice - just not in this case.

With regards to the OP - You need to find yourself a a Gamblers Anonymous meeting, just search it and you will hopefully find one close to you. As to your current state of finances I am afraid that so long as you continue to gamble they will stay this way.

MONTY - as a new member I can not send you a message - I have to wait 60 mins per message.

    I noticed your signature...

As a job I am a personal trainer and I have some fantastic tips for you...

I will send you a message in an hour.

oh wait your signature is 8 months old...

    ill message you anyway

    thanks for your help

    Completely true.

All the "reasons" such as bad potty training, mother ran off etc do not address the problem. Sometimes one just has to be blunt and honest with oneself.

I agree with what you are saying and you have said it well but the context of the post I replied about was unhelpful. Had it have been worded like this then fair enough, but it was not.

Hi OP, I just wanted to chip in and say well done for trying to help yourself. That idiot who thinks that gambling is an excuse and you could just stop needs to grow up or go and play with the traffic.
I have a family member who is a gambling addict and his addiction has pretty much torn the family apart. I know its horrendously difficult and I'm up to my eyeballs in debt myself so I'm probably not the best to give you advice on how to deal with them, however what I can say is well done for facing up to your addiction, admitting you have a problem and taking the first steps in dealing with it.
Best of luck to you :)
