New to Opera?

I also like Opera and still use it, but too many financial sites are not fully compatible - including HSBC, Coventry and other Building Societies, Santander's Cahoot and Marks & Spencer shopping for example.yangptangkipperbang wrote: ».....The odd one or two sites that won't operate correctly with Opera I just select Firefox for those.....".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."0 -
Long term Opera user here. It's brilliant ...
... except for this. When I close and leave the desktop screen showing with view to returning in say half an hour, I click on the Opera icon to resume surfing, and a box appears, tell me that Opera is still closing and I'm given the option to "Force Start" which I do. What's that all about?
... and this.... I'm finding version 12 terrible and close to going elsewhere due to the problems with the separate wrapper process. It's intended to improve compatibility on 64-bit systems but I find it's made Opera unstable and can burn through an impressive amount of resources (hitting 4GB at its worst).0 -

Strange - I have accounts with First Direct (HSBC), Santander & Nationwide, which I use almost daily and these work fine with Opera.
I do think that a lot of "blame" is heaped on Browsers when it should be aimed at the deluge of cookies that are thrown at you everytime you try and open a web page.
Only this morning the Telegraph website was very slow - it was waiting for "something". I Googled the "something" and found , guess what ?? it was something from Google. Went in and zapped it - Telelgraph opens instantly now.0 -

Don't blame the browser. Blame the companies for still making websites that don't comply with web standards.0 -
First Direct works, but with no apparent security. Do you get httpsyangptangkipperbang wrote: »Strange - I have accounts with First Direct (HSBC), Santander & Nationwide, which I use almost daily and these work fine with Opera...
/www2.firstdirect.com etc. when you logon to First Direct Internet Banking using Opera? I don't.
My Santander cahoot account functions, but some page 'close' or 'return' buttons don't work as they should.
One Building Society I use actually displays a message that the browser is incompatible with their system and Coventry BS have confirmed that Opera shouldn't be used.
I accept that it is the website that needs to make it possible.".....where it is corrupt, purge it....."0 -

You don't get s on the "home page but as soon as you enter your user same and move onto the "password" area that is secure. As it is in a different window the s does not show - but if you watch carefully you will see it appear briefly as you progress through the procedure.0 -

I use Opera from time to time and have no problem at all in accessing HSBC or Marks and Spencer - just tried it again to double check.
The only problem I have with Opera is that it seems to be getting bloated lately, no more than IE, Chrome, or Firefox, but it did seem to be much more nimble at one time.
For speed and minimum use of resources I much prefer Maxthon to any of the other browser I have tried and so far have not found any web site that has caused it a problem.
However its not compatible with LastPass and WOT which makes it a no-no for me as my default browser, otherwise no contest as far as I am concerned.0 -
Opera has been my main browser for many years for its speed, features and integration although I'm finding version 12 terrible and close to going elsewhere due to the problems with the separate wrapper process. It's intended to improve compatibility on 64-bit systems but I find it's made Opera unstable and can burn through an impressive amount of resources (hitting 4GB at its worst).
I've seen the same behaviour on different PCs and looking through the Opera forums it seems I'm not on my own with these issues, I'm really hoping they finally fix it on the next update.

had the same
ended up having to do a fresh W7 install!0 -
That sounds a bit unusual - and it doesn't happen for me anyway, so I have to assume that my First Direct connection is not secure using Opera. I would have thought that the https should show all the time you are connected securely.yangptangkipperbang wrote: »You don't get s on the "home page but as soon as you enter your user same and move onto the "password" area that is secure. Using Firefox the https appears immediately in the new window after clicking on Internet Banking - before I even enter my username - and stays there until I logoff. That seems to be the norm for financial sites.
I don't think there are enough Opera users for HSBC to support it.

Using Opera 12.02 and going to First Direct internet banking link on this page http://www2.firstdirect.com/1/2/banking takes me straight to this logon page https://www1.firstdirect.com/1/2/!ut/p/kcxml/04_Sj9SPykssy0xPLMnMz0vM0Y_QjzKLN4o3DPIASYGYxqb6kWbxpvFOYSYQIYN4R4RIkH5BbmhEuaOiIgD6d5tp;jsessionid=0000RUJpCILJkA4Eis-VjLuuXsV:11jk52tf3 which is https.
When I go to the HSBC accessibility link you provided and then click on the red logon button it goes to an https.
When you try it, if you look on the LHS of the address bar you should see a green bar with "Trusted." Right click on the green bar and check "Show full web address." The 'Trusted' should change to a padlock and you should get the 'https.'604!0
