Worcester 30Si v Ideal Logic+ 30kw

Hi Forum,

After some advice please. Need to replace current boiler to a new Combi and have been quoted:
Ideal Logic+ 30kw £1800 (7 year warranty)
Worcester 30Si £2014 (5 year warranty)

The cost isn't an issue as I'd budgeted for either, I just need some advice on which would be the better install for my 4 bed detached.

All advice and views welcome.

Thanks!

Do you already have a combi? If not, are the flow rate and pressure at the property even suitable for one?
Worcester is a premium boiler. Ideal is not.

No on a 'Regular' boiler at the moment. 3 tradesmen checked the property and water pressure is more than enough. Current boiler has a 15mm inlet but price includes 22mm upgrade (to an extent - as long as pipework can be easily located).

So one vote for the Worcester :)

So why switch to a combi? I'm guessing that a 4 b/r detached property probably has two bathroom/showers, if in use simultaneously then a combi may not be suitable.
Did they actually carry out a flow test?

Although we're a 4 bed, there's only two of us. Question about simultaneous use was asked by all 3 and same answer was that the likelihood was minimal. Flow test was carried out.
  • i agree with MM how do you know it's suitable & you will notice the flow rate change, when you say 15mm inlet i'm guessing you are talking about the gas so what's this 22mm upgrade to a certain extent ? it's not an option a 30kw boiler will require 22mm to it & may need some 28mm off of the meter as well, i def wouldn't fit ideal, WB too expensive & terrible to work on my recommendation is below.

I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.

The water pressure in the property is 'more than enough' (quoted by all three). Don't know the exact figures.
Yes the current gas inlet is 15mm. It's being upgraded to a 22mm within the price but 'to a certain extent' means that if they need to go further along the inlet pipe in the property the price will go up (ripping up floor boards, walls etc). The inlet to the house is 22mm. All three guess that the inlet pipe is 22mm to the utility room and then splits off to feed the range cooker and gas fire in the lounge (next to the utility). hence the lower price.

So, Worcester 1 Ideal 1. Close one this!

So why do you want to switch to a combi? Presumably you already have a conventional boiler with a hot tank, this will be lost and you will have all the extra costs of removal and modifying the pipework etc.
Apart from instant hot water, what are the advantages over a conventional boiler for you?

The conventional boiler we have is 20 years old and has a poor service history. I just assumed that a Combi is more efficient than a Conventional and wouldn't have much of an impact on our way of life. Am I wrong?!

I'm not querying your reason for a new boiler per se, I'm querying why you have specified a combi. I think you are possibly confusing a condensing boiler with a combi? All new domestic installs are condensing, whether combi's or conventional, and the efficiency will be much the same, assuming proper insulation of the hot tank.
The other advanatge of a conventional boiler is that you can have both hot water and CH simultaneously-not possible with a combi.

Perhaps I've miscounted, but I don't see anyone has recommended the Ideal, southcoastrgi has said he definitely wouldn't recommend an Ideal boiler and thinks that Worcester Bosch is too expensive and difficult to work on.
