Good to hear that. Guess I (and maybe others) misunderstood. You said it was a 'chain collar' - I would call that one you pictured a leather half check - and you questioned whether you should use one made out of cotton wool, so just answered your question. :)

Its not the same as that though, it's not a half check it is a chain that could be used as a choke chain I guess, but I would not use it that way, EVER, and it has a leather front. They are really hard to get, the one I use had to be ordered from the US, a lot of them available in the UK have a hard front that I am not keen to use.

this thread is acutally quite sad and the reason why people get away with abuse on a daily basis, friends turn a blind eye and take the michael .. so sad, in years to come when the op is posting on here asking what is wrong with her dog? you'll all be going 'oh there there its nothing you could possible of done' where as I'll be sat here head in my hands thinking the spinal and neck damage being done now could of been prevented .. oh well I tried .. poor pup
A heap big thank you to everyone who posts the comps, your all stars!

Proud to of never used or felt the need to use a chain of any sorts on a puppy

Tell me where the abuse it ?

What is your problem with ring craft exactly ? Imo it only becomes a problem when dogs do not want to participate which I have never witnessed first hand but I know it does happen and that's where damage can happen as a dog is pretty much pulled round.

For the most part though from what I have seen so far, people who show their dogs if anything treat them better. Their diets tend to be better ( no nasty kibble) their grooming better and their general wellbeing better cos lets face it, a sick dog aint going to win nothing. So please step off the high horse and back up your claims that I am abusing my dog.

I see animal abuse on a weekly basis, I am a volunteer for a GSD rescue, I know what animal abuse it. You obviously don't if you think a much loved dog is being abused. Maybe your jealous of my gorgeous boy, I certainly can't think of any other reason why you think he is abused. Idiot.

:undecided Oh, well now I'm really confused! It's not a half check, it could be used as a choke chain (but you don't) and it has a soft leather front. I can't really picture it. :undecided

I don't like the look of the one in the link that you posted. Why does it have to be rigid metal? And shaped in that way? Maybe to make the dog carry it's head in a certain way?

Me neither, don't intend to use one like that, i am trying to find a picture of the soft fronted ones but struggling, when he is at training next week I will try take one, it's not mine it's borrowed from one of the people at the club as they are quite hard to get the soft ones in puppy size.

Tells you there why it is shaped that way though, helps dog to breath easier.

Thanks for the link. The description implies that it will press against the dogs throat, so the wider neck piece allows it to breathe easier. Shouldn't they trot round on a loose lead or is ita requirement that their head is held up in a certain position?
