Managed to get Pontins in Southport for the last week of the summer hols for 4 nights.

Never been with Pontins before or to Southport.

Anyone been and have any thoughts or recommendations?

    Thanks

    Matt

Was there (2nd visit) last month on previous Sun holiday offer. Accomodation is very basic but reasonably comfortable. Site is about 3 miles south of town (near Ainsdale) right next to big sandy beach, although it is the type where you might need binoculars to see the sea, it goes so far out. Didn't use any of the facilities TBH. Great area for birdwatching if that is your thing -Marshside and Marton Mere highly recommended. Southport is a decent sized seaside town with long pier and seemed plenty to do. Liverpool about 40 mins away for usual city stuff. Formby Point National Trust site has woods with pretty tame red squirrels (food available in nearby shops). Big Tesco at Formby just off he main road if you need it.
  • Site's up and running and you're able to book now. Just tried to book, but couldn't get any Haven site near me for July or August. Very limited as to what they've got available. Mostly 3 night breaks - not paying £60 plus the extra costs for 3 nights away when The Sun are advertising 4 nights as well, but they aren't available.

I've tried for the 3 Yorkshire coast Havens around Filey and can't into any of them when I wanted, so I went through every date in the list and there is no availability at any of them on any date

I can't see that it has all gone already since few will be trying to book before tomorrow, so maybe Haven availability is not on the system yet. I'll be trying again over the next few days, just in case.

I've not had any joy either! Will try again later but find it hard to believe all dates and parks I've tried have gone....

i have tgried again this morning with the priority booking form ref, and there is still no availability with any of my options, which is anywhere in yorks humberside, i have also tried east anglia, and that seems a no goer for august as well. My son is taking SATs this yer so needs to be in school, and they hate missing the end of term activities, so it looks like I will have to hunt elsewhere for a bargain holiday!!
    Any ideas

I called direct to the haven park at mablethorpe, Goldensands the telesales manager "Lee" is very helpful. We have already had two bargin breaks this year. Cheaper than the sun holidays. So well worth a call to the sites direct. Also have a top of the range van booked for next easter £128 for six of us. Again much cheaper than through the sun. Hope this helps.

Yes,its worth comparing prices directly with the park as many said previously that they were able to get cheaper UK parks by booking direct :)

Not sure if it would be cheaper for the late august dates though !

  • The reason the availability is not so good is not because they are holding anything back for the postal applications, but because these dates were already available on the previous mailing that came out in January.

In January they release a mailing for £9 hols in spring and autumn, and £15 hols in summer.

Then in April they re-do the summer £15 ones to sell off any that are left.

Then in August they usually do another to sell off any Sep to November dates still not sold.

It's worth remembering for next year to look out for the first offer of the year if you want summer holiday dates and top parks.

I've been booking these for 15 years so fairly used to it....;)

The park I wanted and date I wanted is now available so I booked it. Everyone who was having trouble with the parks and dates they wanted have another try.
