Compared Virgin to Sky

Just thought i'd share this..
I am a Virgin Media customer and thought I would check out Sky's prices in comparison to my Virgin package. Here I what I found out:

Virgin Packages
I have Talk Mobile 2, Talk Unlimited, Triple combo loyalty, TV sie XL, Broadband size L, voicemail and 2 additional V boxes = £57.80
Virgin phone line rental = £13.90
Sky Sports 1 & 2 and Sky Prem HD = £32.75
Which equals to £104.45 per month

Sky Offerings
£26.50 for Entertainment Extra.
£21 for Sky Sports.
£10.25 for HD Pack.
£10.25 for Multiroom.
£10.25 for Multiroom 2.
£19.50 for Line rental with Unlimited Talk.
£7.50 for Broadband Unlimited.
Which equals to £105.25 per month
Additionally after 12 months, you would need to pay an additional £30 to cover equipment breakdowns.

Just thought this maybe of some interest

..........and you don't have to pay £30 to cover equipment breakdowns unless you want to. In fact I'm not sure £30 is the right price* There are also more channels on Sky including Sky Atlantic and Sky Sports F1 that come free with the basic entertainment and HD pack, just sayin.

*Sky Protect is £8.25/ month or £99 one off annual payment.

You can get vip package on virgin for a little more, more bb speed

Or £65 for a call out fee as,unlike Virgin who you rent the equipment from so service calls are free,with Sky you own the equipment.As to the broadband,don't forget the speed you will get on Sky will be dependent on the age & condition of the drop wire as well as run length from the exchange to the master socket.

Sky have just introduced an 'Un-Delete' function on their newer Sky+ HD boxes as well.You'll also need to site your Sky router or buy a wireless dongle if you want to use the On-Demand service.

Your post is almost spam since it doesn't compare what's available like-for-like (you have discounts on your account) and you claim that Sky customers have to pay an "additional £30 to cover equipment breakdowns".
No Sky customer is forced to take out equipment insurance and the Digiboxes are not prone to fault either way. If it doesn't go wrong in the first year (while covered by the warranty, of course) then the likelihood is only old age will cause a breakdown. I bought the original Pace Sky+ over ten years ago and it was still working well when I recently upgraded to HD! If I had paid for insurance for those ten years that would have been close to £1000 I'd have wasted.

I had hoped that this would be a true comparison when I opened this thread, instead i find a Virgin fanboy (or girl!) attempting poorly to discredit Sky probably due to the fact that they are not on it!

I have sky and honestly dont know if Virgin is cheaper or not, for me its a moot point as i can t get virgin in my area anyway, however i am interested in the debate.

Overall from what i have picked up from this board is that true like for like comparisons are difficult at best as the offers do differ. However cost is fairly even, however I feel that there are more sky channels I would miss if I had virgin as opposed to virgin channels I would miss as I have sky. I used to watch Virgin 1 from time to time, the quality of which is far far inferior to sky 1 and atlantic (it may have improved - I dont know).

For the OP's next trick i expect them to post how an apple Iphone5 is cheaper than a samsungS3.

FYI, I have both Sky and Virgin broadband, and can't say that one is glaringly better than the other; the Virgin one is allegedly 5x faster, but it seems to suffer Wi-Fi dropouts and the speed checks out at 21 Mb (of a supposed 60).

Oh how i would love 20Mb BB. Try 3 (at best) and my dad has ~0.5 (at best - when it isnt down!).

Since Virgin sold all their channels to Sky (which resulted in the closure of Virgin1) then channel comparisons really are moot!

Just for the record, I still have both Sky and Virgin services. I binned Virgin TV years ago, but kept their telephone and broadband(60 MB connection).

For me, Sky offers the widest choice of channels (especially in HD) and so price comparisons don't apply in my case.
