If you buy a brand new, sealed "unwanted upgrade" from someone (via eBay, for example) - where do you stand with regard to the manufacturer's warranty ?

I thought that the answer to this question was very simple - until this thread: secondhand phone- warranty (samsung)0

Interesting that you specifically mention Samsung as it is a Samsung product I am interested in. How do the first owners acquire their upgrades anyway ? Do they have on-going contacts and so there is no "proof of purchase" - and there was no sale of the phone (alone) as it was "free" (with their line rental) ?
If their contracts are for two years - do they really "own" the phone at the START not the END of that period ?0 -
You do get a proof of purchase when you upgrade, every time i have upgraded you get a reciept as you would if it was a new contract and the price shown is £00.00. You acquire the upgrade at the end of your fixed in period 12,18 or 24months you either goto a shop, online or by phone and agree to another 12,18or 24 months.0

So if you bought a phone from someone via eBay they should have no trouble letting you have that document ? Would there be problems with differing names and addresses ?0 -

Yes...but I was trying to remain optimistic.
The product is the same AGE no matter where it has been - but I suppose it's to do with the price to the retailer - and Samsung trying to govern markets.
If they won't allow transfer of warranty - then it's more sensible to buy from an eBay seller who has opened and tested the product to eliminate any Dead on Arrival disappointments.
That typed, the cheapest route (coupled) with a 1 (not 2) year guarantee could be to just buy new from abroad...0 -

If I saw that on Ebay, I would assume they had used it for a few months!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages, student & coronavirus Boards, money saving boards. Oh..I was being super thick - "transferable only between end users" means exactly what you would want and expect it to, doesn't it ? Whoever OWNs the phone, owns the warranty....
I'll e.mail Samsung as well to check before I buy anything.0 -
its my thread that discusses this
i have asked samsung myself and they state on mobile phones its not transferable if you dont have proof you bought it originally you wont get a free repair shold you need toWhat goes around-comes around0
