Has anyone ever done anything really really stupid?

Ah, big slides and proper roundabouts (capable of speeds akin to those fighter pilots experience in their high-G training). How well I'd remember them if it we're for getting knocked out more than once because of them :think:Yes it's overwhelming, but what else can we do?

I went to Bangladesh to visit my husband's family. I wanted to take a shower but the only way to get hot water is by boiling it. They had this contraption which was basically the element bit from a kettle which you put into a bucket of water and then is switched on at the mains.
I went to check if it was hot, and like a numpty stuck my finger in the bucket without switching the power off!!!!
My SIL grabbed me and chucked me about five metres.
Needless to say the first thing I did when I came back was send them some kettles. You'll have to speak up; I'm wearing a towel0 -
Travelling through France we stopped overnight at a very smart hotel with beautifully tended gardens and pool terrace. I suggested to my husband we take our pre-dinner drinks outside, and unknown to me one of the waiters heard and opened the large sliding glass door for us. I took my drink from the bar, went to the door and 'opened' it - result one very sore nose, shattered wine glass and severely bruised ego when everyone else in the bar had a good laugh at my expense0

Driving down a dual carriageway in my home town I heard a Police siren coming the other way but, as it was coming the other way and there was a central reservation, I didn't make any attempt to slow down. I'd forgotten about the traffic lights up ahead (in my favour at the time) where the Police car decided to turn right. I saw the look of fear and the whites of their eyes as they passed just inches in front of me.
I had a hairdryer in my teens where the lead would come loose and it'd stop working until it was pushed back in. It did this while I had my hair wound round a hairbrush so, not wanting to let it go, I tried to push the wire in against my leg but it pushed it sideways instead and there was a huge bang and a big burn on my leg instead. I'm still a bit scared of hairdryers!Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

Taking a bend too fast on the IOM mountain course, hitting the gravel pit and spinning 180 degrees into the oncoming lane....fortunately no cars were coming, could have been nasty.
Driving OH car with dodgy brakes, pumping them furiously as approaching a crossroads - not sure how I got through unscathed.
Walking home from a nightclub during my invincible days at uni, accepting a lift home from a bloke, who carried on driving when I asked him to stop. He did finally when I opened the door and tried to jump out. stupid stupid stupid.
Having a drink too many at a friends party and going for a wander. Thoroughly lost and unfazed I knocked on the door of a house with lights on at 2am and got invited in for a drink with a group of lads. Fortunately they were lovely and walked me around 'til we found my friend's house.
I only hope my daughter grows up with more sense than I had:o0 -
When I was about 8 I was playing with plasticine. I thought I would warm it up as it was difficult to mould. I put the lump of plasticine on the drop down front of the coal fire for a little while.
My mother came running when she heard my screams after trying to pick up the very hot plasticine. Luckily her quick thinking of rubbing my hand down her dress to get most of it off prevented lasting damage to my hand..This is a system account and does not represent a real person. When I was 20 I went travelling by myself in America. Came out of a hotel in San Francisco, hailed a cab and asked the driver to 'show me the sights'. Spent the next 40 mins driving round China Town, flying down the steepest street in the world, then the twistiest street. We headed out toward the Golden Gate bridge and up a steep twisty hill. It wasn't till I was stood on the side of a deserted track road in the almost dark, alone with this guy I didn't know from Adam, looking at the city all lit up that it hit me quite how vulnerable I was. He dropped me back to my hotel safe and sound without ever having given me a reason to feel worried but I still look back on that time and think good god was I lucky.
I'd like to be able to say I learnt from it, but whilst in Canada the following year I took another silly risk. I was in Jasper and decided I wanted to see the Rockies from the air. I phoned a company that did light aircraft flights and arranged for them to pick me up. A man in a beautiful pink cadalac picked me up. We drove for over an hour through the Rockies to the airfield. I had the most amazing flight then he drove me all the way back. It did occur to me on the return journey that I was literally in the middle of nowhere, with barely anyone around, again with a bloke I barley knew. I also hadn't notified anyone at the place where I was staying where I was going. This was way before the days when I carried a mobile with me either. Again I was extremely lucky and nothing untoward happened but I look back on those memories now and a little shudder goes through me.The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own, no apologies or excuses. No one to lean on, rely on or blame. The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it. This is the day your life really begins.0 -
My Dad shudders every time he thinks about the time he decided to throw some petrol on a really small fire he had started in the garden. The stream of petrol caught fire and luckily he was quick enough to throw the canister and drive to the floor before it exploded.
He also bought himself a chainsaw and got excited butting down trees. He lost control of it and dropped it missing his foot by millimeters.
I had a crazy horse as a teenager and nearly killed myself daily.I seldom end up where I wanted to go, but almost always end up where I need to be0 -

My pal and I as two 14 year olds (dressed to the nines and looking like jailbait now that I look back), were in Edinburgh city centre early one evening when 2 brand new Alpha Romeo cars pulled up to ask us directions.
The young blokes driving them were delivering them to a certain garage and they'd got lost in the city centre. We all got talking and pal and I agreed to go back to their digs for a while. She went in one car, I went in the other. We drove round Edinburgh for a while and went back to their dorm. After a while they drove us back to the street where we lived.
As an adult, I can't believe I used to take such silly risks. I hated my Father and went through a seriously rebellious phase but it looks like my common sense was overtaken by my need to rebel.
We did loads of incredibly stupid things as kids but my experiences have made me a pretty clued up parent so there's always a silver lining.Herman - MP for all!0
