Recommend me a CV company/writer - please!

As the title suggests... Can anyone recommend me a company or website who can sort a CV out for my OH. He has been with same company for the past 11 years (since leaving school), but he has had various job roles in that time, & attended lot's of courses, as you can imagine.

We are moving to Oz in a couple of months, & he is 'popping' over in a few weeks for a few possible meetings/interviews, so we need something quite quickly.

Any help or advice would be appreciated, as there are loads of companies on the web, & we just don't know where to start!

Thanks x

To be honest they all seem a bit dodgy to me (though I am sure some are quite reputable?!).

How about you have a go at putting one together, and then ask here for people to give feedback?

I'd be happy to, and I'm sure others would too! x

For 2 or 3 hours work you can make a good one yourself.

There seems nothing wrong in working for the same company for years as long as you have built your skills and improved yourself.

That's my opinion too tbh, but you know when someone gets an idea in their head & won't let it go - that's what has happened with my OH . . ! I would happily have a go at doing it for him, but he wants it done 'professionally' ! I said I'd ask on here first, to see if someone had a personal experience/recommendation of a company they had used. Some of the prices I have seen are crazy! Maybe I should set up a fake website & get him to order off of that instead, & slip my design in the post.. happy days!

Thanks for the links Phil & Olly.

Lots and lots of money for 2 sides of which 50% is just really a list of qualifications and your personal details is a rip off.

The mass of info you can find online for free on CVs and a bit of skill on Word and you are away.

If he is that done up on it being professional just tell him it is one you ordered online for him(even though you have done it yourself).

  • Visit the local careers office, they are not just for school leavers. See what is available in your locality or even online. My local careers office helps with CV writing and even has an online service. All free services, CV printing and copies. Find out about whether the format or layout of the CV in Australia is expected to be different from we are used to here.Perhaps search for an Australian/British ex-pat chat site to get specific tips from others who have been in the same situation.

  • I agree with the post re local Careers service. They have a cv creator which is brilliant!( Careers Scotland)
I worked in recruitment for 7 years so if I can be of assistance just ask. I wouldn't let him spend money on getting a cv created. To be honest, I have seen a few cvs from these so called professional companies and they are cr*p.

    Thanks for replying.

Think I'm gonna give your idea a go Phil ! With the links on here, & plus the info I can get from the net myself, I'll give it a bash, might even buy some nice paper for him to print it on - if he's lucky ! lol !

Just thought I'd ask if anyone had used a company before, & could give me some feedback.

    Thanks again x

If you think about it page one of your CV is:

    Name
    Address, phone number, Email

    post x... 00-02 then details
    post x ... 97-00 then details

Which is not really worth paying for as it is so simple.

I am sure someone will look it over for you here and help you get it good.
