  • £6 per week of petrol (Plus the other costs of running the car). This is to earn around £45 net.

Nothing! I work just a fifteen minute walk from home.
  • My journey takes 45 minutes into Zone 1 by tube and it costs me £30 a week. This is less than 7% of my take-home pay which makes me very lucky indeed.
  • £10-£20 a week in petrol + all the other costs of running a car.

Start my new job on Monday. Will get a weekly, travel all over town bus ticket which will cost me £18.50 for 7 days.

When I get a car it will cost me about that in petrol, too.
  • Many people in my town pay typically £40 a week or so.
  • £320 per month (train season ticket from Home Counties including Tube across London). It's over a fifth of my take-home pay. Quite depressing, but manageable.

Living less than 2 miles from work, I cycle each day. Last year I spent around £30 on a set of replacement brake pads, a gear cable and a new chain, and that was it.

I really do value the convenience and cost of such a commute, and it is one of the main factors why I have not changed job for some time.

The year before I made about £4300 from my commute after a woman did not bother de-icing the windows of her car properly and drove into the back of me when she undertook a motorbike waiting to turn right. I had a taxi to and from work (all paid for on her insurance) for about 3 months whilst my leg got better.

Not sure if thats forunate or unfortunate david! ATM I spend about £10 on travel to work by car, should be nothing if I bothered to walk but I would have a car if I needed it for work or not. I have applied for a job which would cost around £20 per day to travel, which at 1/3 of my salary before tax is a huge amount but would like to think of it as an investment.
  • Zero -I have a works vehicle to drive to/from work
