Ok, back for some help from you nice doggy people.
I have vaxed my carpet 3 times, firstly with stardrops to get the worst of it out, then with the proper vax shampoo to finish off. And it definitely looks a lot cleaner.
Only it pongs to high heaven of wet dog. Even though it's dried out. :(
I tell you that blasted animal is determined to keep making her presence felt.
So any tips on de-dogging? It really needs a new carpet but I can't afford it. I did think about going over it again with vinegar in the water but I really really can't face yet another day with the carpet cleaner. I tend to be allergic to artificial fragrances so the shakenvac stuff is out. My only other thought is bicarb, but I'm not holding my breath. Anyone else got anything they think might work? Or a magic wand? I'll settle for either.

Which I can't afford right now.
So I'm looking for suggestions to dewhiff my existing carpet if at all possible. On the cheap.

Fabreeze? Industrial strength? I had a leak from my kitchen a month or two back - it's taken until now for it to dry out, but it all went into the lounge, ruined the carpet. I was intending to replace said carpet but hadn't got any quotes, mainly because I'm a wimp!

Anyway, it's all being claimed back on insurance, and when the carpet man came I asked if I could have money towards a laminate floor. He said that because it was a good carpet I could have laminate to replace it! Result!!! So, once it's decorated (what is the nearest colour to slobber?), i will have fab hard floors in my lounge! I would say the carpets were bought when I was briefly dog-free (yeah yeah...), and I just now need to replace the ones in the breakfast room which are beautifully dog coloured and scented...

Our carpet is upwards of thirty/forty years old. Lots of it upwards from there a long way. It's ugly, but it's not whiffs....anymore.

I am now a rug doctor product convert. The odour sprays are excellent, (I keep the odour eliminator and the pet ones in stock for any accidents/vomiting etc). When I use them :o they are highly, highly effective.

Edit...I have only used the machine twice, might will probably hire one again in spring, but I use the products along with a cloth to patch scrub, and the spray just as a spot cleaner and odour treatment.

We immediately ditched the carpet downstairs in the new house, much too impractical with two heavy shedding breeds! Short term solution was laminate but longterm we're looking at something like a good quality vinyl because they're meant to be warmer underfoot.

Our cat passed away in June. After last night hubby splashed mustard sauce all over the kitchen floor, followed by him dropping a carton of cream on it this morning, we've dragged the cooker, the fridge, the dishwasher out, cleaned under them and washed the floor over. There were several cats worth of fur lurking under the appliances. He may be gone, but he's certainly not forgotten.

You likely want to use something enzyme based for pet odours, tho don't spray and leave if your carpet is natural fibre unless the instructions specifically say you can.
