less than an hrs work (you know how long it took you), why don't you get the guy that serviced your boiler to do it, ask him to book it in as a job & that way you shouldn't incurr a call out charge if he has one, alot of plumbers/RGI's don't have a call out charge but you need to check, as someone else said as you have emptied the system it will prob need more inhibitor addedI'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

Did you also know that natural gas doesn't actually smell, they add that just so it's detectable by nose;)

Post has vanished. Author obviously didn't read Post 18 either.
Cheers
Ah yes, beat me to it again;), didn't read yours, but hey ho, the message is the same:DI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0 -
Indeed but you were responding to him and if he'd read the thread you wouldn't have needed to so its all his fault - Muahahahahaha.

I don't know what you guys are on...I might have missed something while I was panicking but definitely not #18 because that eased me but when someone like me (with partial knowledge..no clue what EV really holds) does some stupid mistake and smells gas sort of thing from boiler...it scares hell a lot and I don't want anyone to get that feeling...0 -

I'm bit reluctant to call the same company/guy because though that guy seemed good...and was telling me your boiler is pretty new (not old more than few years) and everything looks good.. then he suddenly tells me last check I need to do is CO leakage check..then he took out one small filter sort of thing and said it should have plastic seal on the other side which is missing or broken and it may release very small amount of CO in your house so because of health risk I can't allow you to use boiler until that is fixed...we can fix that if you want but it will cost £110 (80 for parts and 30 labour)..though I agree that CO is not good for health it needs to be done but charges sounded like ripoff and he said I'll take only cash or internet banking payment not via card (bid dodgy and fishy)...it was 8 in the evening peak winter and we can't leave without heating and hot water around that time so I have to pay whatever he asks for...:( till date (6-7 months) and I have never received the receipt for the part he replaced..now it might be genuine but because of the experience I'm put off by that company.
So this time I wanted to have rough idea how much does it cost for re-pressurising EV and I don't want someone to come and say usually we charge XX amount but because you tried to do your self and because of that we'll need to do this extra(which might or might not be related) so we'll charge you extra...:(
I don't want to pay extra without reason when I'm literally counting for every penny to save some moeny..if you see what I mean..0 -
You've been conned-if he thought it was dangerous he was required to disconnect the appliance immediately.
You can buy your own CO detector for about £15.
Find yourself a decent GSR RGI.No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -

No guy didn't check anything he just said that plastic cover on back of this filter is missing/broken so it may release little amount of CO in house and that can be health risk..so either you allow us to fix this or you can ask someone else to fix this but until than you can't use the boiler...
I don't remember exactly but it was round bottle cap (larger ones not like we find on pepsi etc), i had a small hole may be on one side and plastic seal on the other side...he said purpose of this so CO doesn't leak in house and gets out side....
it was late night in peak weak winter so I agreed just fix this...bit daft of me..:(
I just want to avoid similar thing so I want to know roughly how much should it cost to repressurise EV? and when I tried to repressurise without turning off the knobs under my combi boiler and opening the PRV or drain off valve..did I make it worse or does it make any difference for qualified plumber so he has to charge me extra? I know it's difficult for anyone to comment without looking at this but I just want to rough price so I don't get conned again0 -

The EV is divided in two by a rubber diaphragm and connected to the system. When the water in the system heats up it expands and the EV provides the space into which it can expand. The rubber diaphragm balloons up into the other half of the EV which is also under pressure but this time its air pressure and it absorbs the system water expansion. When the system cools the reverse happens. If the EV needs repressurising then when the system water expands into it there is no resistance so the pressure in nthe system falls. If the diphragm has gone then the water gets into the airspace and again system pressure falls. Hence my earlier comments concerning the schrader valve. The air in the EV is contained when its under pressure - so it gets musty with time which is why it smells when you release it.
Hope that makes sense.

The post we were discussin has since been deleted by the author (I'm guessing) but essentially he was saying the same as the guy I responded to. To bring both down to earth the response is the same whoever posted it. How on earth does the gas which powers the boiler get into the water pipes. Answer unless the system has been drained its been deliberately connected to it it can't.

Thanks a lot.. that's superb explanation and now I'm thinking I was so scared for no real reason.0
