Corgi Homeplan

Hi I hope someone can advise me on an issue with Corgi Homeplan, I will try & keep it short.
Whilst on holiday in Turkey last week my son who was staying at our house informed me that the heating wasn't working so having an insurance policy with the above I phoned their helpline on Monday 1/10 & was well impressed with their response and when the engineer attended that evening he explained that the boiler was more or less kaputt, another engineer visited the next day for what I beleive a second opinion. Then we had no contact from them as to what was going to happen so I phoned them again on Thursday 04/10 and was told that the boiler was close to an "un-ecconomical repair" and as a "favour" to me I have the choice of a repair or they will replace it on a 50/50 costing split! after explaining the reason for taking out this policy was so that we had no unexpected expenditure which we can not afford, they then said they would carry on with the repair. Within an hour they phoned me back with another "favour to you" offer of a 25/75 costing in my favour, after again explaining my reason for the policy was to eleviatte any unexpected expenditure & to carry on with the repair.
Fast forward to yesterday on my return there was no contact from them so another phone call to them they explained that they were waiting for the parts to come in stock, the engineer then phoned me to say they were ordered and he would contact me when the parts have arrived, after contacting him today he said he has no idea when the parts will be instock so it's a waiting game! My central heating is my only source of hot water & heating with the exception of an oil filled radiator, it now looks like another weekend without both, my question is is there a reasonable time limit for the repairs to be completed. this is a section of there t & c's.
4.10 Should parts not be readily available, we are not responsible for any
delays caused by our suppliers or their agents in obtaining spare parts
that are not immediately available;
Sorry about the long post but any advise on what I can do please
Thanks in advance
Larry

What make and model boiler do you have? If you provide that info then someone could tell you if parts are readily available or you could check yourself.0 -
Hi thanks for your reply, the model is a ferroli F30 B, the engineer only said that he had ordered the parts and they were waiting for the "board" to come into stock,
I really wanted to know if the is a reasonable amount of time they should have to complete the works and if so what if anything can I do, it will be 2 weeks on Monday when I made the initial call.
Thanks again

A PCB aka 'board' for your Ferroli has next day availability. A local RGI could order one today and have it on tomorrow.
+1 for the independent.0 -
Thanks again for your response,
I have been in touch with the engineer and he just said he was waiting for his suppliers to contact him when the parts are in stock, I appreciatte what your saying about the parts being avaiable but apparently the engineer only uses 1 supplier!!
Corgi homeplan customer services will only reply that it's with the engineer, they won't pass me on to a manager but add they will pass on the message & one will be in touch. I really need to know if there is anything I can do and what sort of time scale do you put on a reasonable amount of time to repair the boiler.
Thanks

thank you, however you are misinformed, corgi homecare use local RGI's so they are independant, they have to supply all their own materials & then bill corgi, corgi doesn't supply anything, the RGI can get the materials from where ever they wish & some just use one merchant, corgi don't survey the installation before signing the customer up to the plan that is left to the RGI to fill out a fact sheet that is then passed to corgi for future info, due to the cost of a replacement boiler replacing parts & getting the boiler working is number one on the list, however two weeks does seem a long time.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.
You get no BS from me & if I think you are wrong I WILL tell you.0 -

I am well versed in the operation of Corgi Homecare, ta....also many threads/posts on here about the beast and other 'service' (or lack of service) providers. I prefer to put aside money each month for eventualities and get emergency plumbing and heating works done asap by my longtime plumber/RGI....+1 for him as I always pass his name on.0 -

putting money away is fine providing your boiler doesn't break down until you have saved enough to fix it, I'd be interested to know as to your well versed operation of corgi ?I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

It is called self-insuring, discussed here on MSE as an option to expensive service plans. Would you prefer people use service plans: not a business model designed for your financial success.
I have a specific interest in data protection issues......if you read any PH trade magazines you will be aware of the Corgi 'situation'.0 -
i am well aware of the outrage with regard to the use of customers details with regard to boilers that were reg with them when they ran the safety of gas in this country, however all they used were the customers detail & then offered them the chance to sign upto a monthly plan, nothing really any different than all the energy co's do or any different to the inland rev asking gas safe to provide them with details of installers reg boilers with them then checking they have put them through their books where is the data protection there ?
so really the only experience or gripe you have with the corgi homecare plan is the fact they have used the customers details as a marketing plan which really has nothing to do with the OP's prob.I'm only here while I wait for Corrie to start.

Just an update:
A guy phoned me from corgi homeplan full of apologies for the lack of comunication, he said that it's not just the pcb but other parts which total over £800, he assured me that it would be repaired by Tuesday at the latest.
@ diywhynot thanks for your advice, in my case I have had the policy with corgi homeplan for 19 months & I pay £16.99 monthly so by saving this amount myself it wouldn't have coverered the repair costs and last year I had a new pump fitted aswell, at a cost of around £180. I do appreciatte what your saying but for me, when this latest fiasco is sorted it would have cost me about £320 for over a £1000 worth of repairs.
Thanks all
