  • Something possibly a little healthier pilchards on toast?
You can have a lot on toast lol
I'd go reduced hunting every night if you have a shop close by like co-op or one of the big 4. You can get some posh pre packed meals most nights for under a £1 sometimes even 20pish if it's really late.
I picked up a lamb shank meal the other week from t's for around a £1!

    Hi

Eggs are a good standby and Sainsburys have 18 barn eggs for £1.50.
Basics flour is 52p for 1.5kg, 2 litres 1% fat milk is £1, basics tomatoes 39p, basics beans 28p, Taw Valley sliced cheddar on offer for £1 for 8 slices, basics bread 50p, porridge 1kg £1 etc. Pride chick peas are 37p per can and can be used to make hummus, basics mushy peas 15p per can.

If you have any lentils then they can eek out meals, make a tasty soup with carrots, stock and a bit of onion etc.

Iceland have good offers as well with packs cheese £1, 4 litres milk £1, tinned fish is cheaper than elsewhere. Bags carrots are 50p. They are also doing Oats so Simple, large packs for £1.

The above gives you porridge for breakfast, cheese / beans on toast for lunch and omelette, frittata, pancakes for dinner. Beans, tomatoes and carrots give you 3 of your 5 a day. You can make a pizza base from flour and put tomatoes and cheese on top.
    Pizza dough
    1 tsp salt
    2 tbsp oil
    200g flour
    150ml/5fl oz water

Place the salt, oil and flour in a large mixing bowl. Add the water gradually while mixing together to form a dough. Make sure not to add too much water and stop when the dough has bound together.
If you have any yeast it helps it to rise

Tesco have been doing 2 cauliflowers for £1 so you could make a cauliflower cheese with tomatoes.

Also use the coupons above. Have you got any reward cards for stores that you could use the points to buy food. It may not be the best use of them but needs must.

I hope that you get through and do look through your cupboards, freezer etc as it is amazing what you can make from odds and ends.
  • Myteeduck - the first thing you need to do, as already mentioned, is to inventory EVERYTHING you have in the house that is edible. You may be pleasantly surprised! However, assuming you have nothing except store cupboard staples such as salt, pepper, olive oil, butter, etc., then it's going to be a challenge - but it can be done. OK, you're not going to be eating gourmet meals, but you can still eat!

For example, using Tesco Everyday products (no affiliation with Tesco, just the first supermarket that came to mind!): penne pasta (30p), chopped tomatoes (30p), tuna (59p) and sweetcorn (32p), you could make enough tuna pasta to last two or three meals.

Obviously, there's going to me more pasta than anything else, but plain pasta, seasoned with olive oil and black pepper is also pretty nice. Maybe a bit of grated cheese if you've got some?

Asda Smartprice eggs are 89p for six. With those you could make omelette or poached eggs.

BUY SOME BREAD! Having been broke more times than I care to remember, I have lived off bread-based meals many times. It's amazing how far a loaf can stretch if needs be!
  • I think the people who post on here are some of the most kind and thoughful people around & definately restores your faith in humanity.
People offering help and food etc,I find it sad that the O.P has not had the courtesy to say thank you.
I'm sorry but they have asked for help before and never thanked the people who have replied.
I'm sorry but I felt I had to write this as I hate ingratitude in all forms.

you can ask butchers for a bone or two and boil it to make a good base for a very cheap soup , just chuck in some veg and a pulce or two and you have a nourishing cheap soup or stew to see you through few days . good luck

Don't forget the 31p cornflakes from Morrison, I've tasted better but for 31p & if you're hungry ....

Oh & there's always the Lorne square sausage from Iceland. You get 12 for £1, so there's a few meals there. It's nice with tinned toms, or you can do a sos & tom casserole. The recipe for that's on here somewhere.
  • This site has some extremely basic and cheap recipes - some are just ideas for what to make when you've got hardly anything in the cupboard at all:
