If you are really short, I have never done this myself but saw somebody previously mention that if they are caught short, they do a milk and more order, because you don't pay for a month, there are £10 off codes on the discounts board.

Perhaps you could do an online search and see if there is a foodbank nearby. We run one of these where I work, they contain enough food to feed a family of four for 3 days and most people who get them regularly say the food quality is basic but good and they can make a decent meal from it.
Most have pasta, sauce, canned vegetable, longlife milk, cereal, jam, tinned desert or pudding etc.
Good luck with the budgetting;)0 -

*sigh* things that are wrong with the internet: ... this thread has been viewed 800 and odd times. Only a few people have offered suggestions / advice (thanks to those who have, I'm sure the OP appreciates suggestions even though they haven't got back). Only one person has thanked me for my post (thanks Lynsey!) yet LOTS of people have PM'ed asking me for the coupons I have. Cheeky... much? More than happy to share the coupon love with people but manners cost nothing and it would be nice to see the people asking for the coupons actually contributing to the thread

Tesco "Everyday Value" cornflakes are a good filler when you have little cash. 31p for a 750g box and they are just as good as Kellog's in all honesty. I have 10 boxes hoarded awayWe have removed your signature - please contact the forum team if you are not sure why - Forum Team0

Ive got a ridiculously cheap student style curry recipe that will keep you satisfied one evening. Cook rice, add peas and chopped onions then its gram musala and tomato ketchup (1 teaspoon GM to 2 TK), you can throw in anything else you have left over too. I know it sounds horrific but its actually delicious, very filling and uses store cupboard ingredients!0

As others have mentioned value pasta / rice / bread and if you can value cheese?
You may already have frozen vegetables,
Rice (less then 20min):
1. Lightly fry half an onion in oil,
2. Add 1.5 cups of water,
3. Add a handful of frozen veg (mixed or single - your choice) to the water and bring to the boil,
4. Add salt and pepper (or 1/4 tsp of jeera),
5. Now add 1/2 cup of rice (washed),
6. Bring to boil and then simmer on lowest heat setting with lid on for 15 mins.
This had come to my aid many times - many thanks to a friend at school. Brilliant for children.
Pasta:
1. Lightly fry onion,
2. Add salt and pepper to taste,
3. Add frozen veg and stir for4-5min,
4. Now add any pasta sauce of choice,
5. You can add cheese, fresh cream, milk.
You could also stir pasta into baked beans with cheese,
Again the potatoes are cheap and easy - they last,
You've got baked potatoes, mashed potatoes - (add cheese / milk / cream / veg / dry stock / masala powder/ mustard / mayo all to give different flavours), chips.
Stirfry the onions and frozen veg. with soya sauce for flavou.
Bread:
Toast, Fried, grilled, baked in oven, simple things on the bread will fill you up more.
Value tuna?
Tuna and pasta, tuna and bread.
HTH, Also like to offer if you are local to eastham, essex, would gladly share our meals with you - or if you perfer gift bag instead still welcome.
All very cheap and with more then one meal possible from each product.0 -
Definitely list everything you have in first, you may be surprised!
Do you have even one small item you could sell? Even an extra fiver in your food budget would make a big difference.
I use milk and more for my milk - signed up when we were housebound for a few days and never cancelled it but it is really handy for getting things delivered and you pay once a month so like another poster said, you would get some food delivered and not have to pay yet.
My final piece of advice - don't be too proud to ask people in real life for help. If I knew a friend or relative didn't have enough money for food I'd insist they came round for a meal or two, or get them some food in. I'd hate to think of someone I cared about struggling when I could help them.
Hope you do okay til payday. It is only a bargain if you need it!0 -
I 2nd what some other people said about putting up a list of everything you have in the cupboards.
There are so great threads about how to eat on the cheap, one of the best has got to be the £7 a week meal ideas
Good luck!0
