I got a few quotes
2 local and well know companies with recommendations both came in at 600, another local company came in at 550 and pickfords were 1,400.
Way way overpriced. We used one of the locals that came recommended by friends to move a 4 bed 10 miles down the road to a 5 bed.
Perfect service, worked super hard and i tipped the guys £60.
Can't see why pickfords are so much more. Seriously not worth it when i couldn't fault the local guys.0 -

10% off a quote that is 100% more than a local is still 80% more than you need to spend!

We've used Pickfords twice now & both times they have been completely brilliant. We went for a full pack service, moving < 5miles moving a 4-bed townhouse. The house we were moving from had poor access so no doubt we were charged a premium for that. We paid £1600 for the first move from the townhouse to the rental, and £1400 from rental to 3 bed, so your £1500 sounds about right ( longer distance).
The price for us also included various transit/contents/late key insurances too. Pickfords for us were actually the cheapest of the national companies (we got quotes from Britannia, Bishops Move, Pickfords & a local firm), and did an amazing job with a pretty difficult move.
Tea & biccies on the hour every hour & bacon butties for breakfast & lunch kept them very happy (as did the small tip at the end)!
I am hoping my 10% corporate discount will keep the cost under £1,500. We currently have an ancient 3 bedroom terraced and are moving to a modern 3 bedroom detached house. The contents to be moved is: 3 beds, two large wardrobes, clothes and underwear, 3 bedside tables, two large chests of drawers, loads of books, two wooden booshelves, one large dining room table with six chairs, one 3 seat sofa, one armchair, one sideboard, TV + DVD, Hi-Fi, washing machine, fridge-freezer, cutlery and crockery, microwave oven, lots of nick-nacks and bits/pieces, personal paperwork, certificates etc.
I think that's pretty much it. We'll probably leave the gas cooker as it's long in the tooth.0 -
We paid a local firm about £1100 to move us about 150 miles, fully packed, which included a garage full of pieces of car. They took 2 vans and did it over two days (packed the day before). Your quote is shocking. Definitely get some prices from other firms!!!0

I've budgeted for £1,500 so if I can get it all done for less I would be happy. Having said that, I need the job to done well and professionally as some of the furniture is quite valuable and I wouldn't want it to be dented or damaged in any way, especially the table and chairs which are mahogany.0 -
Best thing to do would be to ask around for a personal recommendation - colleagues, neighbours, friends, relatives, in the corner shop or doctor's surgery and so on. Choosing a big name or paying a lot of money guarantees nothing, some depots are great and others awful.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Britannia quoted me £1500 for a 3 bed to a 4 bed 40 miles away. Full packing service.Grab life by the balls before it grabs you by the neck.0

I got a few quotes 3 weeks ago for a 3 bed. All quotes ranged from £500 to £900 but all wanted to come out and see how much stuff. This was just for removal and no packing. None of the big boys, all local smaller firms.I managed to get help and rented a van, so van for 2 days and Chinese for everyone at the end of the day cost £200.
£1,500 sounds about right bearing in mind distance plus packing.0 -
My Mum has just had a quote for moving, 8 miles, full packing service, local company with excellent reputation, £700, fully insured.0

Can i squeeze in and ask a different question.
