  • So you are happy to suck it up without negotiating? More fool you.

If there is no harm in trying to negotiate then why not?
I tried and got nowhere :(

I would be negotiating on the exit fee that has been suggested.

    Wouldn't you?

Realistically, no. The OP has nothing to offer them, other than paying whatever they ask to exit, or continuing the 18 month contract.

TT have no reason to accept a lower offer.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

What would you be negotiating with regarding the exit fee? What can you offer?
  • The fact he is such a heavy downloader would probably play in his favour when it comes to negotiating a termination fee.
They would be glad to get rid of him.

    250 gb in 20 days!!!.

You must be a serious torrent download/upload to have that much used in 20 days.

What other reason is there, watching on demand programs or youtube certainly wont use that much.

Which is why its confusing that the OP didnt factor this in to their purchase.

If you know you are going to be a high-user, then you would have thought about entering into the agreement surely?

Not at all, because when you run out and they reduce your speeds to 0.125 Mbps, you have a choice to pay £5 for another 5 GB (which I did).

Plusnet's highest cap is 250 GB.

In fact, Plusnet are one of the only ISPs with a cap. It's old school.

Where does TT come into this ????

    Plusnet are part of BT.

Also quite a lot of isp's have packages with quoted limits. In cluding Sky.

Well for a start one could offer (say) £100 now to terminate the contract now and that would be the end of the matter, or if that isn't acceptable then they would receive the requested amount in monthly installments.

    Just an idea.

No idea if it would work, but that's what negotiation is about, isn't it?

4 in the morning and still on the internet, says it all really ;)

Seriously though, as you've now discovered you have no legal right to quit the contract, particularly as you admit the mistake was yours alone. The only thing to do is work out which is cheaper, paying extra every time you go over your limit or paying your contract off, and if there are other's involved in your household then get them to chip in too.

An alterntate option would be to just curtail your usage a tad. :)

You're gunna have to either curb the streaming dramatically for the rest of the month, and less so through out the remaining 17 months, or suck up and pay either an absolute fortune for extra data (or live with highly reduced speeds) or pay out the contract.

That seems to be the only way to get out of it, or live with the decision. Basically you're tied.

Unfortunately very few of these providers of paid or free film/tv/other allow downloading, or download managing (ie downloading during unsociable hours) so you are kind of screwed.

Do you even have an alternative provider that you are absolutely sure will not cap you, speed limit you or acceptable use you?

I find it a bit surprising that you didn't consider previous usage before signing up to an 18 month contract. Thus said, things change. I moved from slow-broadband 40GB monthly limit to plus net slow-60GB limit, and still now struggle to keep with in it, so I understand about miscalculations, as simply my type of usage has changed (more streaming, less downloading now). I see a move to Sky for me, for unlimited. Though thankfully for me, I have no contract to live out, I'm just holding fire till my 1 year line rental is up, in another month or two.
