Can I legally leave my 18 month contract in 1st month?

  • Why are people presuming I'm the only one that uses the connection? For example, two other house members stream a lot of HD Netflix content each month, and I stream lots of HD iPlayer myself.

    How is this wrong ?

One company states they are genuinely unlimited -all the others have limits ( even if very generous) that they *can* inflict ! (Can and do are not the same but if the condition is there a company can change policy and enforce at any point and there's no comeback)

It always amazes me how many people assume usage is only what you physically download and keep and don't realise even watching media online contributes to usage though ! I've lost count how many people on lighter usage plans who get hit don't realize that game playing or youtube have knocked them over their limit that I speak to at work.
    ACCEPTABLE USE POLICY

Irrespective of which Product you have subscribed to, our Acceptable Use Policy ("AUP") will apply to you and those who you allow to use Sky Broadband.

Oh look! Sky are NOT "totally unlimited". ;)

Examples of 250 GB Monthly Transfers

It can be difficult to put a gigabyte -- let alone 250 gigabytes -- into actual usage context. Here are some examples of how different ISPs describe 250 GB of data usage:
    • Send 50 million plain text e-mails (at 5KB/e-mail)
    • Download 62,500 songs (at 4 MB/song)
    • Download 125 standard-definition movies (at 2 GB/movie)
    • Upload 25,000 hi-resolution digital photos (at 10 MB/photo)
      (Source: Comcast)
    • Download 50,000 songs
    • Download 570 (1 hour) TV shows
    • Download 285 standard-definition movies
    • Download 25 high-definition movies.
      (Source: Bell Aliant)
    • Download one high-definition movie (approx 8 GB) every day for 30 days

Does anybody in the house find the time to sleep
I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us.

I was with Sky and must have easily downloaded 300+ GB per month for years with no issues or speed restrictions at all.

I'm not disputing that. I'm responding to the critique my earlier post received. :)

Then why didn't you check the usage limit BEFORE going to plusnet?
  • Hindsight is 20:20, why are we bashing the OP for making a bad decision? saying why did you do it is not remotely helpful.

OP, have you talked to the company and see what they say? You may be able to negotiate a cheap exit.

I rather doubt that. One month into an 18 month contract will be a very expensive exit.

And what's there to negotiate? The OP has only two choices - keep paying for the full 18 months, or pay the exit fee that TT has set.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
  • So you are happy to suck it up without negotiating? More fool you.

If there is no harm in trying to negotiate then why not?

I would be negotiating on the exit fee that has been suggested.

    Wouldn't you?
